WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP COMPARING HEALTH INSURANCE TO CAR INSURANCE?
Question by ScubaSteve:
Why do people keep comparing health insurance to automobile insurance?
Yes you are forced to have automobile insurance….if you OWN a car!
Why do people keep stating that being forced into buying health care is no different than being federally mandated to own automobile insurance?
Buying a automobile is acknowleding the fact that you will need to purchase automobile insurance…its a privileged not a right.
Why should Americans be fined and imprisoned for being forced into something they can not control?!

Answer by Reality has a Liberal Bias
Because it’s a government mandate, genius, and the logic is the same. Lots of drivers would like not to purchase insurance, just as lots of young people would like not to purchase health insurance, because they do not think they need it.
However, drivers who do not have it cost other drivers money when there is an accident, just like people who do not have health coverage cost the rest of us ,000 per year from not paying their emergency room bills.

I wish I knew because the comparison doesn’t make sense. Even if you own a car the requirement to have insurance is a state regulation (which makes it legal), not a federal one.
Edit-I love how people try to rationalize it, but the truth is a vastly overreaching commerce clause still can not cover the unconstitutional mandate.

It is a mental process of someone comparing something they have no idea about to something they know about to make sense of something.
They are basically trying to describe a situation of giving money for something they feel they don’t need.

it’s not different. it will force insurance companies to profit based on volume of customers rather than customers health; which, increases competition and lowers prices. just like current car insurance companies.

So you don”t own a car But you do transport yourself by using planes and trains and buses ….all of which are insured and none of which you would use it they weren’t insured
I also doubt very much if you would be a passenger in a car that you knew wasn’t insured.

Simple answer its because their both forms of insurance, except operate differently and have different rules that come along with them.
The rationale behind comparing different types of insurance is the same as comparing different countries, companies, businesses, government systems, etc. There’s nothing wrong with comparing the two.
