Question by v8volvodude:
What automobile insurance should I get?
I am about to buy a 1997 Volvo 850R sedan from a private individual. I am in Indiana. I have never had my own automobile insurance, always being on my mother’s plan while in high school and college. Now that I have to set up my own plan, I have received quotes from Progressive, Esurance, Nationwide, and a few others, and everything looks and sounds pretty much the same to me. My mother has given me advice on what kind of plan to get, but I was wondering, is there a good or specific insurance company for someone like me? A male under 25 with a clean driving record and no tickets or violations? Does anyone have any good advice or horror stories from any specific automobile insurance company? What has worked ideal with you and your plan? I would like to get the insurance lined up by Tuesday or Wednesday, so any advice on where and how to go about it would be greatly appreciated.

——————————————

Answer by puggy563
When I shopped around for my insurance, I got the ideal rate from Unitrin Direct. They gave me the ideal price and its very simple to make ur payment online. Good luck!

Answer by gay_in_an_1890s_sort_of_way
One point to remember: your rates are based on what group you fall into. Single males under age 25 pay the highest premiums because that group has the highest risk. Keep your clean driving record with no tickets or violations – that will keep your premiums steady.

Go for a reputable firm (Allstate, Say Farm, Geico, etc) and avoid the “Billy Bob Insurance and Lawn Care” firms, even if their rates are lower. You get what you pay for.

Unfortunately you fall into a high premium group, so VERY important to keep a clean driving record. If you begin getting tickets and having accidents your rates will go SKY HIGH, considering you can get insurance at all.

And when you turn 26, call your insurance company and have your rates recalculated.

Question by :
Car insurance more costly for men?
I’m twenty five and looking to get my first car, a small 1.3 Nissan, anyway i checked the insurance and it costs €3250 for one year, that sounds extortionate, no? I then went back and done a quote for a lady driver who just turned eighteen January just gone – it would cost €1750.

Is that not sorta wrong?
Is automobile insurance more costly for men, where you live?

——————————————

Answer by fallen_throe
I’m not 100% sure of the figures, but I have heard that women’s automobile insurance is less than men’s because men historically are riskier drivers (drive fast, etc.).

Answer by The Candyman-TrollSlayer-
yeah you should ask this in the automobile section. cuz us in the polls and surveys dont know.

Answer by brad
Probably because men are inherently more reckless when driving, and they just think it applies to all men. And I am not sure if that applies here.

——————————————

Answer by Louise
Massachusetts, known for the highest auto insurance claim rate, now has a new system where auto insurance companies have been given the freedom to establish their own rates based on your driving records. Since this system removes the say government’s authority to set rates, we can look forward to more competitive premiums.

Answer by entidtil
To know how much insurance would be, you would have to get a quote. While you do that ask them how insurance works

Answer by Michael S
Too many questions!
Each quote is different according to the individual needs.

Answer by David W
An insurance quote is an estimate of your premium for one term, either six months (more likely) or a year, based on what you tell the agent or website. If you elect to take out a policy, the company will check your drivers record and adjust the premium as necessary. Remember that is just an estimate until things are confirmed.

Answer by Fred C
Yes, it is basically another term for a type of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. It provides primary insurance coverage guaranteeing any bodily injury judgement awarded to you in an out of province lawsuit up to your limit of liability, or a maximum as outlined in the policy. Your exact terms might be slightly different. I am a licenced broker in Manitoba.

Question by :
Am I paying to much for automobile insurance?
I like in Tempe, AZ. I am under my parents insurance and I am paying $ 200 a month for automobile insurance. I drive a Toyota Yaris 2007. At first I thought what I am paying for was wayyyyy to much, but I got some quotes from other insurance company’s and they want me to spend more?! What the heck? Can anyone help me out?
I nearly forgot to mention, I am 18 years old. I am 19 in April (couple months, if this makes a difference).

——————————————

Answer by LT
Insurance cost different from one location to another, say to state, etc…. but the price doesn’t sound out of line for full coverage. You can check around, but to get insurance on you own will cost more (not under you parents insurance policy).

Answer by oklatom
Hopefully you are still living with your parents, and even though you are officially an adult, their insurance company will grant you to continue being on their policy.

Should they decide to drop you and make you get your own policy, it will be much higher.

You will not see much of a drop until age 25.

Question by TamiJohnson99:
Is it legal in CA for a used automobile dealer to sell you auto insurance?
i bought a used car, and the used automobile dealer put in the contract that I was also purchasing auto insurance thru them…but i wuld get a refund of those premiums when I provided a copy of my own insurance. I never signed any other ionsurance forms with them. i did purchase my own insurance later. But, is it legal for the used automobile delaer to sell me insurance?

——————————————

Answer by xx_satanic_mechanic_xx
absoutely. Its called an insurance binder.

Furthermore, it IS illegal to sell you the automobile without insurance. So the choices were (1) sell you the automobile AND insurance, make a deal on both, or (2) Sell you neither insurance NOR the automobile and let the deal walk. Obviously they took the deal and so did you.

Why would you question whether this is legal or not?

Answer by Todd G
They might have included this to make sure you are covered until you get other insurance, however it is suspicious because they did not discuss it with you first.
Whether or not it’s legal, it is pretty sleazy to put that in automatically.
They’re probably trying to get more money out of you.
Make sure you comprehend everything in the contract, as well as your alternatives before you concur to it.

Answer by zealot144
Yes, but he can only sell you collision/comprehensive coverage. He does this to protect the lender in the event the automobile is wrecked before you get your regular insurance. He CAN NOT sell you liability coverage mandated by say law (I have no room here to explain why). Did you get your money back?

I have seen a case where a Finance Manager that worked for the dealership I managed did this very thing but forgot to fax the application to the insurance carrier (many carriers MUST receive the fax before the automobile leaves the dealership, though there are exceptions). The NEW automobile got totaled the very next day (Saturday). The finance manager remembered to fax the application Monday. The dealership ended up eating the car.

Question by e e in california:
Unsure about auto insurance law?
I got a great quote (liability only) from an agent who went through the huge auto insurance casualty company for my commercial vehicle. It’s nearly too good. It is more than half the price of the next lowest quote I found.

The thing is that the next lowest quote came from the same auto insurance casualty company but through a different agent. And, I have gotten other quotes through several different agents through the same casualty company.

I called the huge company directly and told them the situation. They told me that if he had the VIN of the car then there could be no problem as far as classification of the type of commercial vehicle.

My major concern is that should there be an accident, and this lower priced insurance that I am paying was not accurately quoted by the agent, am I liable for damages? Are there clauses in the paperwork or contracts that protect me from this situation? Will I be obligated to pay the balance of what I was misquoted if an accident occurs?

——————————————

Answer by STEVE S
YOU SHOULD BE GOOD AS FAR AS LIABILITY COVERAGE IF YOU HAVE A VALID POLICY THRU AN AFFILIATED AGENT.
AS FAR AS OWING ANY ADDITIONAL PREMIUM ITS TOUGH TO SAY AS INSURANCE VARIES GREATLY FROM STATE TO STATE.
FOR LIABILITY ONLY THOUGH IT IS DOUBTFUL.
SHOULD YOU BE MAKING A COLLISION OR COMPREHENSIVE CLAIM IT MIGHT BE A DIFFERENT STORY.

Answer by Jared R
First off, you get what you pay for and secondly, if it seems to good to be true then it probably is. I would bump up to COMP and COLLISION as well in my opinion. I would also ask the agent for a copy of the policy itself , called a specimen policy, and comb through it very carefully. It will spell out what you will and will not be getting in the policy. If you are comfortable then yes, go for it. Be advised , anything not covered by the policy in theory could be charged back to you. I work for an insurance company and have seen people lives ruined by not having enough or the RIGHT TYPE of insurance. Bad things do happen to good people. I hope this helps.

My auto insurance company did not inform me I did not have a valid drivers license (I did not know either) and sold me a policy. I got pulled over and lost my automobile because I was not informed. I want to sue the insurance company for selling me a policy they could not live up to because unlicensed drivers can’t be insured.

——————————————

Answer by JetDoc
You can get plenty of free legal advice right here on Yahoo! Answers, but remember…

Free Legal Advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Answer by granny racer
you can get all the legal advice your pocket will afford, however, in my many years with autos, it is not the insur. companies responsibility to check on your license. Any car can be insured with or without a valid license. I could even insure your vehicle, though it’s not in my name. you lost your car due to YOUR neglegence, not the insur. company’s. But you CAN simply check with your state’s dept. of motor cars for specific answers.
