My license was suspended due to lack of automobile insurance and I was allowed limited driving privileges. I had to drive outside of the allotted time due to circumstances beyond my control. I was pulled over. What happens next? Will I absolutely lose my driving privileges? My car? The only information I can find on the web pertains to those whose license were suspended due to dui, mine was for lack of automobile insurance.

Answer by Ben
Ohio
The court is authorized to order car immobilization & impoundment for:

1st offense – 30 days
2nd offense – 60 days
3rd offense – forfeit vehicle

Answer by nas88car 300 grt race #11 MM #1!
you might be able to explain to the Judge what happened and why you needed to drive.. hopefully s/he will let it go with a fine .. but more than likely you could lose it

Question by cheapskatsh:
Can you name a place in so. California where I can buy minimum legal auto liability insurance?
I would be greatly obliged if you did not limit your answer to something like “contact your insurance agent”.

For one, I do not have one yet, that is part of the problem. I currently have neither a automobile nor insurance. For my first car, I want to buy a automobile from one of the many people selling their used automobiles in my metropolitan area. But without insurance, I cannot drive the automobile home or even test drive it.

I would like to buy the minimum liability insurance that is required by California law BEFORE I select and buy a automobile so that way I can go to nearby cities test driving cars, and drive back the one I buy.

I have tried shopping on the web for insurance. I went to all the insurance companies that are on Television plus several others. I came across two issues 1) they base the insurance on what type of automobile you have, and I do not know which one I am going to get yet, 2) they want to sign me up for complete automobile and driver’s insurance, even though they claim to let me customize my plans.

I do not qualify for the say liability insurance for low income drivers.

Can you specifically name a place where I can walk in and buy only auto liability insurance?

——————————————

Answer by Reid
I do not know of any company that will issue you a policy without knowing what kind of automobile you will be driving. How could they?

Some auto dealers will make you buy insurance (from the company of your choice) before you leave the lot, I guess it’s a potential liability for them. I ran into this and it was annoying.

Private sellers, on the other hand, do not generally care if you have insurance. Once they have the money and sign over the pink slip, it’s not their problem. I would not worry too much about driving a automobile home un-insured and arranging a policy once you get home. They will generally take effect the same day or at midnight the following morning, so the chances of you having an incident in that few hours is pretty slim!

If you are truly paranoid, call the insurance company of your choice from the seller’s location before you leave and buy a policy. It only takes about 10 minutes and they can arrange it to be effective immediately and fax/email you the insurance docs. This is what I did at the dealership. As a side-note, I have generally found that calling the company is faster than trying to do it online. Just a tip.

As for the amount of coverage, I am not sure I comprehend your complaint. I had no problem buying a “legal minimum” policy on the web from Geico. If you are having issues with the world wide web sites, pick a company, call them and say that you want a “legal minimum liability-only” policy. Yes, they might try to sell you more coverage because that is what they are in the business of doing. If you do not want it, do not buy it.

Answer by mustanger
Without a automobile they cannot quote you a rate or sell you insurance. It’s based on the type of automobile and written against the specific automobile not the driver. Test driving the automobiles is fine as the owner should have it insured. Then when you find the one you want to buy take the information to an agent and buy insurance against it in your name.

Answer by oklatom
To start with, if you do not have a car, you cannot get insurance on a car, since it goes with the vehicle, not with the driver. So if you are test driving, it’s with the owners permission and you are covered under his policy.

As to the second part, where to go when you do want to get insurance and are buying a car: You walk into the office of any local independent agent, and he will be able to assist you.

——————————————

Question by ryan:
Way’s to make money on the web when you are 16 years old?
I work at Long John Silver’s as a cook and I pull in about 150 dollars each 2 weeks.

That might be good for someone who is just looking to get some spare money, but for someone like me who is saving up for a automobile and insurance for the car, that is just not going to cut it.

I am looking for a second job on the internet.

Something that sends a paycheck or something…

Any site that doesn’t require a paypal account or anything like that.

Thanks…

——————————————

Answer by Judy
I’ve heard on the web sites can pay as much as 10 cents an hour.
If you work a full 8 hours a day for 5 days a week you can earn as much as $ 4
So… stay away from on the web to make money.
You are just giving your name and personal information to everyone.
They make money by selling your information.

CNN did a report on these work at home sites.
They were all scams. Each single one of them.
/

Answer by My Take on It
You will not find it being 16.
You need a superior paying job, or another part time job in the real world.

Don’t bother with the spammers here who want you to fill out surveys or paid to click sites.

Question by gregwhatshisname:
Why would my credit score have any bearing on my annual premiums for automobile or home insurance?
Recently, I had a homeowners policy with on the web insurer ESURANCE. I was under the impression that my homeowners policy would automatically renew. No. You have to call ESURANCE and tell them you want to renew or they cancel you. After I was cancelled I called up to reopen my old account. No can do. So we opened a new account. My annual premium went from $ 468 to over $ 1400! I have never filed any claims or changed anything at my house. However, like many Americans, I have been laid off and bill payments have piled up. It’s fair to state my credit score has dropped. But a 300% markup? I called other insurers; Allstate, Nationwide, Say Farm; they were all close to $ 1000 annually! How can insurance companies get away with this? What do they think, if I am slow at paying my bills my home might burn down?

——————————————

Answer by John C
Part of it is the credit, but a very small part of the change I would guess. Many insurance companies jack up rates each year in excess of 20%, especially on accounts that are in escrow. My homeowners insurance went up substantially because they claim over last year it would cost that much more to rebuild my home because of increased costs in materials, So my $ 47,000 house, which was insured for rebuild at $ 165,000 was increased to $ 240,000 in insurance. A 5 minute phone call got it dropped back down. Good luck.

Answer by ☼AstrologerJuliAnne☼
Yes, your premium is tied to your credit score now. Perhaps their logic is that you might be so far in debt that you resort to burning down your home to collect the insurance.. LOL

Answer by NJ
All rates have gone up, The storms on the coast, floods in the Midwest and the fires in CA can cause rates nation wide to rise, AND they have.
Credit does matter as well, a lower score will get you a higher premium
Farmers is the worst.
So a combo of all together has caused your increase.

Go with a company that has an REAL AGENT, esurance might sound good but there is nobody with you interest.

——————————————

Question by Pantera_is_Kewl:
Insurance on an older “classic” car…?
If I were to purchase an older car, say, pre-1980, would I have any trouble with insurance? I ask because on a lot of websites where you can get an on the web quote, the model year only goes back to like 1981 or so. So, are there certain companies that just do not insure automobiles that old or what?

I would not be driving a perfectly restored collector car, it would just be an old automobile I could use as a daily driver for a while while working on it, and maybe do a complete restoration later on down the road. I would only need liability, just enough to be street legal.

Oh, and I am eighteen years old. I have a automobile right now anyways, I am just asking for future reference. I am still kind of new to the whole insurance thing as you can probably tell.

——————————————

Answer by Entidtil
It depends on the coverage that you want. There will be no problem with just liability but if you want collision and comprehensive some companies will not insure a “classic” and those who do, will have a high premium

——————————————
My insurance company is Progressive, and they made me an on the web account once I filed a claim, with which I can check the status of the claim.

It’s been a month now, and the payment details have not been completed yet. I am not anticipating get any money since my automobile was not damaged, but shouldn’t they be completed with the paperwork already?

——————————————

Answer by MSAD
Not necessarily.

The other celebration might not have settled with them yet. They could have extended an offer to the other guy and he did not like and has not accepted. The other celebration might be making it difficult for Progressive to inspect the car. The other celebration might not be returning the Progressive adjusters phone calls. The other celebration could have chosen to use his own collision coverage to pay for the damage to his automobile and Progressive is waiting for the subrogation paperwork from the other carrier.

The other celebration might be claiming injury and still treating. Just because they did not claim an injury at the scene does not mean they will not claim one later. In which case it could easily be a year or more before the claim closes.

Lots of reasons why the claim is not closed. Since you are not making a claim on your car just check it in another month or so.

I am a full time college student, and my school offers insurance, but it is expensive. I need basic health care to cover physicians visits, specialist visits, and x rays. The main reason I need coverage is that my back is messed up from a automobile accident about a year and a half ago and I cannot take the pain anymore. I went to my says website and the insurance they offer is currently not accepting applications. I have looked at tons of sites online, but so far am having no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer by Liquid♥Onyx
i’m so sorry to hear that
have you checked out health plus or medicaid?
or a university’s medical center?
i wish i could help
good luck though!

Answer by George S
If you are in college, you might want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be inexpensive for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.

Question by RPG:
Plan to switch from Liberty Mutual to Amica – Auto Insurance – Need Help?
Presently I pay $ 109 to Liberty Mutual per month towards my automobile insurance. I have 2002 Nissan Sentra 83 K miles. I have taken 100/300, 50K property damage and 500 for collision and comprehensive. Also Roadside assistance and automobile rental $ 30/$ 900. Feel bad that I pay a lot for this old car.

Just got an on the web quote from Amica. They quote me $ 90 per month for the same configuration which I presently have. Is Amica reliable auto insurance provider with respective to claims?

Does Amica Auto Insurance cover insurer’s rental automobile (car rented from Enterprise, hertz)? I could not find this information from their website.

Any suggestions/ help welcome. Thank you

——————————————

Answer by roger
be careful about getting quotes off the world wide web , often times it might change at a later date. Personally you can probably call the local yellow pages and ask agents local to you for a superior quote. I recommend if your insurance is paid up that you just let it run its course, anything you do to change in the middle of a policy ,may likely end up with excessive fees, and mistakes and excuses that eat up any savings you think you will get back, insurance companies do not like giving money back. I would set it up for the day the policy ends, and contact your insurance company at that time and cancel. They will want to know what company you are going with because they send letters to the motor cars now when you leave .

Answer by Entidtil
In the USA, All insurance companies are decent. If they were not, they would not be issued a license to sell insurance. You can check any insurance company specific satisfaction ratings on either A.M. Best, or J.D. Powers websites. You will have to ask Amica if they provide a rental.

Despite what others have stated here, There are no penalties and no problems and no reason you can’t cancel when you want to cancel.

Tip: It is ALWAYS more costly to pay for insurance monthly compared to semi-annually or annually. People who pay monthly are being “penny wise and pound foolish”.

Answer by G G
They are both good companies. You can cancel anytime you want to cancel without problems or financial loss. You do not need to let your present policy expire before you switch. There is no good reason to do that. Be careful of people giving you advice who have not a clue as to what they are speaking about. Any questions can ideal be answered by your present insurance company and by your prospective insurance company. Communicate with them.

Question by :
How can I file a judgement against a company that has repossessed my automobile thru discriminatory ways… Finances.
My automobile was repossessed on Wednesday. They had ample warning that I was gonna be late on 1 payment. They never called me or tried to contact. We have Caller ID. When I told them I was gonna go after my Deposit back thru a letter, they started calling wanting me to settle out. Everything in my automobile is gone, I have no idea of where my stuff is including the License Plate, Insurance Cards, Music totalling around $ 200.00 and I had $ 150.00 in cash which I borrowed for 1/2 of my automobile payment. I did contact Superior Business Agency on the web and I did not have my automobile for even 1 month. How can I charge a file thru Equal Opportunity as well because I feel as though I was discrimnated because of my financial status as well. I live in Miami, Florida.

——————————————

Answer by Another Perspective
Well, you live in an area where repos are common. Note to self, do not buy a automobile if you can’t make the 1st payment. If their paperwork that you signed says they can repo the automobile in a certain time period, they will. Nothing you can sue for really. Everything in the automobile likely will belong to them now. They have to recover their lost cost in having your loan prepared and interest lost in you not making payments. I do not comprehend why you think this is Equal Opportunity. They have policies, you did not pay on time. You should never keep money in the automobile by the way, no matter how tiny or how much, if it is stolen, you get none of it back.

When it comes to finances, you can’t really be discriminated because of your status. Either you can afford the automobile or you can’t. Them repoing the automobile is their way of saying you can’t afford it because you missed the first payment. If you had to borrow part of the first payment on a $ 200 note, you really shouldn’t have bought the car.

Sorry, this is the way it goes. Banks are lending to more and more people that do not have the credentials. More foreclosures and repos than ever before.

Answer by copsrp2
I do know if you did not make your payments on time and you are past due they can repo you automobile at anytime and any they need to do so. you signed a contract stating you would make your payments on a certain day of each month.

Answer by Kosmicgirl
I do not think that you will be able to file a “judgment” or sue the company. You can try of course but it would be futile. You signed a contract to buy a automobile and could not even make the first payment. It sounds as though you can’t afford the car. I will tell you that just because it’s repoed does not mean that you can’t get it back. Contact the company and make arrangements with them. Maybe they will let you have the back if you make state a couple of payments up front, saving you a repo on your credit. However, if you could not afford to make the first payment, are you sure that you can afford the vehicle? If you can, try and save your credit and get the automobile back and remember that they have the right to repo that automobile any time you are late on a payment.

——————————————
