This is a company like Geico. Yes they save you money but when you need them to actually pay for coverage you will get hassled.

Never concur to limited tort- you limit your rights to recover for damages when you actually might need it.

Always keep you insured amounts high like 100,300 and 50 at the min. The higher the more protected you are —thinking cheaper by using low limits can come back in your face.

Match the uninsured/under-insured to the same high amounts as above.

Ask what the difference in premium would be for a deductible of 100,250,500 and see what is ideal for you. Remember this is what you pay in case of a claim. You might be surprised how tiny it raises your premium with a lower deductible- maybe not.

Never,
Never, use the drive-thru claim service or the service when they come to your home etc.. They give you a check and good luck finding a body shop that will do the fixes for that amount. Look around for a reputable body shop in advance and have the automobile towed there if unable to drive) because they are in the business of repairing automobiles where as the insurance company business is to make money so they avoid paying what is necessary.

Add rental care option usually 30 -35 a day for a max for a month so you have transportation while car is being repaired.

Travelers insurance is good coverage at a reasonable premium in my area. You could ask the body shop you find to be reputable to see which co. worked with them the best. But if they are a direct repair facility there answer might be tainted.
Direct repair is when a body shop concurs to work with the insurance co. (at a lower repair rate) in return for direct referral of their business.

MY PARENTS HAVE BEEN WITH THEM FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND THEY HAVE TREATED THEM VERY GOOD.

THEY HAD A COUPLE OF NO-FAULT CLAIMS AND THEY TOOK CAR OF EVERYTHING WITH NO HASSLE.

I happen to be an insurance agent licensed in Florida, and I know rates are going up everywhere in the state. I hate to state this but, for a person who is over 70, the rates are not good. Some insurance companies will not even bother writing any business for the elderly. If they do, rates will be sky high regardless of driving history. If you do find a rate that is too good to be true compared to other quotes you have received, it probably is. Bottom line is, you are screwed. Move to Arizona.

Technically, any automobile is repairable. It’s a matter of economics. Most insurance companies follow a formula to determine if they are going to pay to repair a automobile or if it is a total loss. Your damaged automobile has what is called salvage value. To determine if it’s worth repairing, the insurer usually determines what the fair market value is on your car–immediately prior to the accident. This takes into account its age, equipment, mileage, prior damage, condition (i.e. rust), etc. From the retail value, they subtract the salvage value and the difference is the most they would pay to repair the vehicle. If the estimated repair cost exceeds that figure, they figure it’s a total loss. The hardest part for most people is accepting what fair market value is. Most people feel their automobiles are worth far more than what an insurer values it. However, insurers have to use objective means of valuation just like a automobile dealer or appraiser. If you disagree with the value, you could contact a automobile appraiser to look at the automobile and tell you what it is worth. Then ask your insurer to explain how they arrived–mathematically–at the decision that your automobile had to be totalled and not repaired.

YOU are. It might be repairable, but the insurance company is only responsible for THE LESSER OF the cost of fixes or the acutal cash value (note, NOT book value) of the car. Once they have made an offer for the lesser of the two, they ALSO do not have to pay any more storage fees.

If you do not like it, you can take them to court over it. It’s not necessarily going to get you any more money. It will not get storage fees paid. And it could take up to 18 months.

The laws of each say can vary but in general – a automobile is deemed a total loss when the cost to repair the automobile (including parts and labor) equals or exceeds 75% of the car’s actual cash value (what you could have reasonably sold the automobile for 1 min before it’s damage- given the automobiles options, mileage and condition).

If the estimate exceeds 75% of the automobiles value – then by law, the insurance company has to total loss it.

If the estimate is close to 75% and the insurance company anticipates that a supplement for additional damage will be likely during the automobiles repair that could put the automobile over the 75% mark, then they will usually go ahead and total loss the car.

If you want to repair the vehicle, you can elect to purchase back the salvage. (ie purchase back the wrecked automobile from the insurance company). Depending on the year/make of your automobile – salvage value can run anywhere from 20%-30%. Most sedans are in the 20-25 range and trucks 25-30. The insurance company would take the actual cash value of the automobile and subtract the salvage value and that is how much they pay you + you get the car.

If you select to purchase back the automobile and repair it – then any costs to repair the automobile that run higher than what you were paid by the ins co – you will have to pay out of pocket.

You will also have a salvage title – so the re-sell value of the repaired automobile would be less than a automobile that does not have a branded title.

If you automobile is a “rolling total” – ie – the estimate makes it a total loss but the automobile is save to drive – people will frequently select to retain the salvage.

Until you sign the title to the automobile over to the insurance company you are legally responsible for the automobile – that means you have to keep paying taxes on it and making your automobile payments.

I filled out a questionare rating how pleased I was with the service from my Insurance Agent, I gave him low marks cause he told me he would raise my auto insurance if I did not purchase homeowners and life insurance from him.
So I wrote that down on the questionare and the Corporate seen that and he nearly lost his job
next he calls me up, and cries like a baby and told me if he loses his business or his job I am the one to blame
What would you do?

Ignore him; tell him to get a life and stop bothering you. He caused his own problems. You gave the company the honest feedback that they were looking for. If he continues, report this to the company. If all else fails selected another insurance company and/or report the harassment to the police.
