Car insurance quote before buying ?
Was thinking about buying a automobile (first car) just to run around in for a while before I actually purchase a superior one when im older but want to ask a question. When buying a car, should I get an insurance quote first, then purchase ? Or should I just purchase a automobile I like then think about sorting out insurance for it ?

If you are buying a beater for cash, and do not need comp and collision, one rate quote should cover nearly anything you’d want, unless it’s a sports/hot car. Even plain liability rates will vary between companies, so call several.

If you will be financing the car, you will need comp/collision on it to satisfy the lender, and those rates will vary a lot. Cannot help you much there.

How do I make an auto insurance claim for scratches through auto owners?
I purchased a used automobile a few months ago that had a near flawless finish. Over the past few months it’s been scratched several times by my nephew on his bike. We have talked and now I need to file a claim with my insurance. The marks are everywhere, back of the trunk, right rear quarter panel, hood, left rear quarter panel.

The problem is, before I knew I could claim damages, I used a touch up kit to cover the scratches and gouges so they are hard to see. But I could still take photos of them as they stand now and probably get a letter from the salesman, proclaiming the condition that he told it to me in. What else do I need to file a claim with Auto Owners? Yes, I have full coverage, including comprehensive.

You need to call your insurance company and open a claim. They might send an independent adjuster, but as it’s just scratches, I doubt it. They will probably tell you to take it to a shop that will fax the estimate to them. They have a list of how much the fixes should cost and as long as the estimate is within the limits, you should be okay. You will have to pay any deductible and they will want to know how the damage occurred. Also, if the damage occurred while the automobile was parked in a driveway, they might want the owner of the home to use their homeowner’s insurance to settle the claim.

I need to find automobile insurance rates to compare, but I cannot find a site that lets me do a comparison and get results on the internet. I do not want to give them my phone number and email because I know I will be spammed to death by people trying to sell me something.

Is there anywhere I can go to get comparison rates for free without having to put in contact information like that?

I have an auto insurance policy with my spouse. He was in an accident and filed a claim. He is not planning to purchase another automobile and is going to use public transport. If I drop him from my policy, will my rates still go up because of his claim even though I was not involved in the accident? If I go with a different insurance company only for myself, will they also quote higher rates because of the claim?

since you are married you are like one in cali ( I dont know where you are) but if you are in cali his rates would effect you because you are married to him. A lot of insurance companys go by the registration so if he is on there he would pose a problem but if not you could get away with it. let the agent you are working with know. they cant help you if they dont know whats going on. If they dont help move on. You would be suprised on what companys work with you.

I’ve been looking at several different automobile insurance companies to compare rates and services. I have never had a claim in the past, but I was wondering if anyone had positive/negative feedback they had be willing to share about any specific companies and how they handled a claim. I have been warned that some companies are pain to work with when you do file a claim, but maybe that was just a few rare circumstances with the people I have already talked to. The other celebration if they do not obtain current insurance information from you has the right to take you to civil court, and will most likely be awarded a much higher amount of money then they would have if you had just given them up-to-date insurance information.

I’ve had a quote for 100 less than my own. I pay a broker to search for the cheapest deals and I have found plenty cheaper than the quote they have given me. How come they have not found the cheaper ones or am I missing something?

The broker is probably on a commission and has no incentive to find a lower rate for you….he would loose money if he did!!
