Question by inskin:
Which auto insurance companies DON’T use a credit score when deciding rates?
I disagree with the use of credit scores and auto insurance, and would like to find an auto insurance company that doesn’t use the method when selling me their service. Does anyone know of companies that do not check your credit, and instead uses your driving record, age, etc….like it used to be?

——————————————

Answer by causant
Allstate does not use credit score when calculatin your rate at all. Progressive uses credit score only if you are paying in installments..you usually pay more. If you are paying for the policy in one payment, they do not take credit score into account.

Answer by car253
It also depends on what say your in. In California credit scores are not used.

I think credit scores are wrong. You need to contact the Department of Insurance in your say and let them know you are against credit scores. A link is below. Just click on your state.

Answer by mbrcatz
Leader Infinity will, at your request – but they will automatically give you the highest rates, assuming you have bad credit.

I’m sure there are others.

The PROBLEM is, there IS a direct corrolation between claims paid out and credit score – so the companies that were last, moving into credit scoring, wrote higher risk policies unknowingly, using the old methods. They had higher losses, and had to raise rates, etc.

To be more competitive, to be able to write GOOD business that doesn’t have the losses of higher risk clients, they HAVE to be able to sort out those higher risk clients. Credit scoring does that.

——————————————

Question by Ashysuperfaq:
How do automobile insurance companies evalulate your insurance?
I am living in the UK and i use one of those automobile comparison websites to find the cheapest automobile insurance,
(I’ve entered hundreds of automobiles make/models)
But i still do not have a clue as to how automobile insurers operate for e.g
i used confused.com to find the cheapest insurance on a

>1997, BMW 3 series, 1.8, convertible, manual, petrol, value of automobile £2500.00 & the cheapest insurance quote they find for me is £1136.72, on third celebration fire & theft

>1989, Nissan Micra, 1.0 manual, petrol, value of automobile £75.00, & the cheapest quote they find for me is £1641.88??????????????? on third celebration fire & theft

ALL of my other circumstances stay the same, address, millage, what type of automobile alarm and tracker i will use, what the automobile will be used for everything is the same
I was under the impression that the more larger the car, the more powerful the engine, the more likelihood of the automobile been stolen will be the more costly one on the insurance (The BMW)

So why in Gods name is the Micra’s insurance £500.00 extra????????
Halp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

——————————————

Answer by Pecan Tan Goddess
Well it depends on where you are trying to get insurance. I do not know the laws where you are from. But the basic insurance premium includes replacement cost of car, your driving record, claim history, age, sex, marital status, and credit! Yep.. CREDIT! lol. But that is here in the US. Just call an insurance company and ask.

Answer by Tony
autoinsurance.noneto.com – try this one. I have their automobile insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

——————————————
I’m looking for automobile insurance and was wondering which companies you would recommend I look into and get quotes from? Which company do you have and what do you like / not like about them? Thanks!!
Oh yeah, by the way, I live in California, so I am looking for American Insurance Companies. Thanks!

——————————————

Answer by David
State Farm.
Sure you can find a lot of insurance companies that are cheap in cost. But when you have an accident, Say Farm comes thru each time with money to pay for the repair of your car. They pay the repair shop, not you, though. I have had Say Farm for 30 years.

Answer by gary g
DO NOT use Harleysville – the screwed me over a bunch. Left me hanging on claims and returning phone calls. I can’t wait to drop them next month.

Answer by bmonee
State Farm hands down, theyll hook you up with all kinds of different discounts, I had farmers insurance wich is completely different than say farm but I pay 120 less with say farm than them for full coverage, I havent found a company superior truly

Question by :
I’m going to switch auto insurance companies, can I get a refund?
I’m switching auto insurance companies due to poor services. I have not paid anything in full, but I paid a down-payment of $ 200 on jan. 24th and my first payment on feb. 15th which was $ 127. I just added another automobile a couple of days ago with a down-payment of $ 150. So if I switched insurance companies would I be entitled to a refund atleast for the second automobile I added?

——————————————

Answer by mbrcatz
Likely not. You could actually end up owing money to the insurance company.

See, you did not pay very far ahead, at all – and when you cancel your policy, most of the time, you get a short rate cancellation (depending on what state you live in) and can also be subject to a cancellation fee.

If you’d paid six months up front, then yes, you’d get money back. But I’d bet, you will still be owing them money.

Answer by HGCity
It largely depends on the overall 6 month or annual premium you are paying. If you cancel your policy now you could get a prorata refund, but again, it depends on how much you paid vs. how much is owed.

Let’s state your 6 month premium for automobile insurance is $ 1000. You paid 300 initially and in month 2 you paid 200. If you cancel at the end of month 2, your premium owed would be 333.333 and you would be refunded the 500-333.33 = 166.67.

Check and see what you paid, how much is owed and when you plan on canceling your coverage. That should give you a superior idea of how much you will be getting back.

——————————————

Question by frustrated:
How long does it take for auto insurance companies to settle?
I had an accident in august 2006. a lady crossed the center line and hit me my insurance company would not even begin the work on my automobile w/o my deductible. Now i’m trying to go through hers and i’m getting the run around, I have been quoted 3 different prices from 3 different people at the company. Then I get the papers to sign and the price has changed again. Can someone please HELP, I do not know what else to do.

——————————————

Answer by Speedtouch
Go talk to a lawyer that specialises in non-fault accidents. They should be able to sort it out for you and claim their costs from the celebration at blame.

Don’t get me started on insurance companies, they are legalised robbers. They always take your premium immediately and take ages to settle a claim.

If you have any witnesses or cctv of the accident from nearby buildings/businesses then that will strengthen your case.

Best of luck to you.

Answer by mbrcatz17
They have no obligation to settle with a third celebration – you. I”m assuming your total damages are under your deductible? If not, I’d have YOUR insurance company pay you less your deductible, and let THEM worry about getting it.

Either that, or flat out do not settle with them, and go to small claims court.

If you do not have anything from them accepting full responsibility for the accident, they could be contesting fault – ie, she might be saying YOU crossed the center line. Which is why they are delaying.

But, if there is no question of fault, it usually takes a week after they see the damages to get the settlement check.

Answer by notaclue
You need to get an estimate from the repair shop of your choice and submit it to the other celebrations insurance company. They will for sure attempt to pay you much less than your estimate which might require you to obtain an attorney to get a fair settlement for repairs. One thing that can usually pursuade an insurance company is letting them know you are not a push over and fully intend to stand your ground. Insurance companies prey on weakness! You can also get your say insurance department involved as that has bite in it too! The insurance company gets marks against it everytime you file a complaint which effects their capability to get rate increases and other valuable needs.
What some people do not comprehend is that you are not entitled to all brand new parts no matter how you have treated your car! The insurance industry only has to put it back in the shape it was in which can include junk yard parts or whatever! Hey, they keep the politicians in office with “political contributions” so the law is certainly weighed in their favor! Sorry thing but that is the truth!

——————————————
We are both on our parents insurance and what not so I was just running quotes to see what the rates would be like, and it asked me for my social… What the heck does your FICO have to do with getting automobile insurance? I dont really see a correlation between your credit score and getting into an accident…

——————————————

Answer by rottendog93
But they do, and you are trying to do business with them.
Deadbeats usually do not pay any bills on time.

Answer by oklatom
It’s no secret they run your credit. They are looking for risk factors that would increase your premium, and having a poor credit rating has been shown to increase the risk to the insurance.

Of course, you are not required to give out your social security number, but if you don’t, they can decline to insure you.

Likewise, your employment can also affect it. A bookkeeper would be less risk than a police officer for example.

Added: afterthought. Also it will decide if you can make payments, or if they want the whole thing paid up front.

Answer by sideboom
just stay on your parents plan until you get on your feet. your parents can do a credit check on their own plan( for you),to see how well you score with the company.

Answer by McMuffin
Whenever they call, try to answer. If you can get a hold of someone you can ask them to please stop calling you and remove you from their list.

Answer by ken k
i keep telling people not to put their info on thes sites/they are unsecure and they sell the lists/good luck/you might have to change your phone number to unlisted one for 6 months

Progressive

Answer by aura_60970
Dunno if there is one in your area… but try Insurance Xpress
I started a full coverage policy on my truck (04 Ford) for $ 90.00.
Everyone else quoted me far more than that.
Seriously – see if there is one near you… might save you a bundle

Answer by suze q
Find an agent that carries lots of different companies. They can usually find you something cheaper.

I already called a few but they tell me there do not offer auto insurance for someone w/ IDL

——————————————

Answer by gomanyes
Try smaller companies. Sometimes huge ones are more strict.

Also, do not state International Driving License. Tell them that you have a license from whichever country you have, and that you have an IDL to go with it.
