I disagree with the use of credit scores and auto insurance, and would like to find an auto insurance company that doesn’t use the method when selling me their service. Does anyone know of companies that do not check your credit, and instead uses your driving record, age, etc….like it used to be?

When you ask for a quote for insurance from Netquote can they pull a credit report on you?
I clicked on a link to see what quotes they would give me for auto insurance and after about a dozen quotes, I started getting rejected for insurance. The reason I was given was “too many inquiries to my credit record.” I enquired and was told that over 14 insurance companies had ran a credit report on me. I never gave them a social security number or anything–they just ran one. I called and they stated they had the right to do this–it was in the very fine print of the terms of the offer. I can’t find where it states they can run a credit report on me.

I just saw a commercial for Safe Auto & they stated they do not check credit. Do most other insurance companies check it? And does that make Safe Auto’s rates higher? Basically, I need liability insurance and as cheap as possible. I do not have a bad driving record but my credit is not good.

If I put a feeze on my credit, will I have to temporarily freeze it each time I shop for new auto insurance?
I am considering putting a freeze on my credit. However, there are so many auto insurance comapnies that now check some sort of credit score when determining premiums Are there enough left out there that do not do this for me to be able to get insurance? Or will I have to temporarily thaw my reports before I get an insurance quote?
As I comprehend it, a credit freeze keeps new creditors from looking at your credit report and score. Existing creditors still see it and add info to it, but you can’t get any new credit while it is frozen. I am interested in this because I no longer use debt at all, and I do not want anyone looking at my report without me specifically giving permission for them to do so. The only area I can think of where this might injured me is in getting insurance. It takes 3 days to thaw a frozen credit report.
