Answer by PamelaS
It varies from company to company. Each company sets up their rate plan (the mathematical formula they use to compute your premium) differently, giving different values to different factors. One company might favor older drivers, one younger, another might be set up to favor only the very safest drivers. You have to compare different companies to make sure you have the right fit. If the agent you are meeting with is an independent agent, he or she can compare several companies for you. If they only deal in one company, I advocate some comparison shopping before you sign anything.

Answer by Diesel Fingers
If you own your automobile you can get liability only, that will halve your premium.
You can also shop around for the ideal price, and shave another 30% or more, depending how deep your search is.
I use

or any or all from

http://www.simplyinsurancequotes.com?id=m3y227

it is not as if it costs money to get priced up, time is all you need.
Good luck.

Answer by Karle
yes they CAN raise the rates as soon as ur contract expires…….

as for whether or not they have to honor the rate quote depends on IF its IN WRITING and u gave them all the info…..if u left out or omitted any info then they can change the rate….

Answer by Killista Mood
it is just a quote as a lot of attributing factors can change over time- your credit, dmv abstract, such as an accident while operating someone elses automobile with no citation given(last ex. is personal exp.)

Question by Baroccoli:
How can Obama state he wants to give people Options with health insurance?
But he wants to force some people to pay for it even though they do not want health insurance? How is that giving them an option again? He also compared it to automobile insurance. But people who do not want a car, do not have to pay automobile insurance. So why should this be any different?
mommanuke – I am just curious how Obama can state these same people without insurance get a bill in the mail, then turn right around and state that we end up paying for it.
Which one is it?
Banana Republican – There you go again supporting the government, thinking they will fixe something they are responsible for screwing up in the first place. Education would be a good idea for you, just not government assisted education.

——————————————

Answer by mommanuke
I’m perfectly willing to grant people to refuse to purchase insurance, as long as they are willing to carry a card that they refuse all treatment in case of accident or illness.

Did you think not carrying insurance in some way stops the rest of us from having to pay for you?

Edit: But will they pay? Are you going to give the government the power to attach their bank accounts?

Answer by 45 auto
He is a politician all words are not what U think he wants to give people options but all the options are his not ours. U see how it can be read into.

Answer by Terry
Well, you have to live and be healthy. Anyway, if you refuse their health insurance you will be fined $ 3,800.00. How’s that for an option?

I thought the Democrats were always for “choice”.

Question by xxpaperwriterxx:
Is it required to give your social security number for automobile insurance?
I have automobile insurance right now that has been increasing due to changes in my credit report. I have never had an accident and have never been late on my payments. I actually pay my automobile insurance about two weeks in advance. Is there a law stating that I have to give my SSN to a automobile insurance company? Is there a automobile insurance company where I do not have to provide my SSN? (I live in Nevada).
Thanks!

Answer by JetDoc
If you are just trying to avoid having your credit checked, then it’s not worth the bother. The insurance company has other methods of checking on your record.

Answer by wangarific
It’s unlikely you will find a company willing to give you insurance without reviewing your credit, they use it as part of their equation for calculating your premiums.

Answer by Sheley
yeah actually, you should be able to go to any three automobile dealerships and get quotes. i would get one quote by the person who is supposed to come out and look at it. and then get other quotes by top dealerships in the area.

Answer by Jason F
You can ask them for copies. If they will not provide them then you just do not pay it.

Answer by state it again
you can ask them, for anything you want, the problem is, they are going to do what they want, Im not sure why you are asking this, are you paying this out of pocket? if so, I know some insurance companies might send you a letter asking you to pay this amount, they might send more than one letter, the next thing you get maybe the court case number they filed if they do not get paid in a specified period of time (which means they fixed the persons automobile that was damaged promplty, and intead of messing around, just made a letter of demand, (as required by law) and after 30 days filed suit. thay may, or might not be difficult to work with, ask for the estimates and see. good luck

Question by AllorNothing AKA The Black MikeT:
Why should men care if women get paid LESS, if they do not give a DAMN about unreasonable automobile insurance for men?
The whole argument with women when asked about how they feel about male automobile insurance:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“men are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics state most men cannot drive as safely as women”

So why should I care if women are getting paid less for the SAME job a man is doing since:

Women are usually less productive than men
Women want to be flirtatious in the workplace
Women are always suing for sexual harassment
Women have to call off to have children or take care of kids.

And I could just use all of the above:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“women are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics state most women cannot work as efficiently as men”

Since the insurance companies “feel” men are irresponsible based on statistics.
Then men who have seen women consistently under perform ,compared to men, should just pay women less for the SAME amount of work.

BTW the “women pay more for health insurance” argument is old and tired. The Male vs. Female health insurance gap is no where near as huge as the male vs. female automobile insurance gap.
@ I Enjoy: I am glad you do not care about my “whining”

Because I do not care about you are problems associated with you being a woman: pms, sexual harassment cat calls. I am a man so It’s not my problem right?
Tristan: Ok sounds reasonable.

——————————————

Answer by Pat
Good point. I am still an suggest of womens’ rights though since not all women feel that way.

Answer by Guido
That is why some people are equalists while others are feminists.

Answer by I Enjoy Hats At Rakish Angles!
I DO care about any inequality that is based on false generalizations. But if you are coming across as a whiny misogynist then most women will make a point not to admit they concur with you…

Also…
“Women are usually less productive than men” Like any guy, not if they are at a job they care about.
“Women want to be flirtatious in the workplace” Not true, especially if they want to get respect and get promoted.
“Women are always suing for sexual harassment” Not ‘always’, only if they feel they are being harassed, and that in some way should be addressed, but preferably not with a law suit.
“Women have to call off to have children or take care of kids.” In order to continue the human race, people are going to reproduce. Not happy with women quitting their jobs to take care of kids? Then be a stay-at-home-dad.

——————————————
I’m going to be jumping on to my fiances auto plan [Progressive] and heard that insurance agencies give lower prices to married couples. Is this true? He drives a 1988 bonneville and I drive a 2001 sunfire. I am also in college, he isnt.

——————————————

Answer by kelly_f_1999
well superior to call three or four places in the top five of being the highest. and they go by age type of automobile and sure if one is married

Answer by thatgirl
Yes, when my husband and I got married our premiums dropped significantly. My rates only dropped slightly (maybe 5%) — but his dropped about 30%.

Answer by Chickie
For drivers in their twenties being married can sometimes put you in a different pricing tier than being single, which might result in a lower rate. After age 30 being married or not usually makes no difference. Since you have 2 automobiles you will get a multi-car discount, which is usually anywhere from 10% to 30% depending on the company, so you will probably notice some savings from that.

——————————————

Question by Gaura:
What is the difference I will pay for automobile insurance with the answers I give ?
Im doing an on the web quiz with a company that searches for the ideal automobile insurance prices. Will I pay more or less if I tell them that my marital status is divorced than if I state that I am single ?

When I am employed, it is self-employment, but I am taking at least a year off to work on a music project. Musician is not listed as an Occupation. But I am not just a musician. I am also a lecturer and I use my music to discuss topics on spirituality with people. I was a member of the Clergy for over 20 years, but I am not officially involved with any institution at this time, so my status is not really clear to me, as I could be classified under several headings. Im just trying to find the least costly rate but I do not comprehend how the insurance industries criteria works.

I was just about to put my seat belt on after grocery shopping, and was leaving the sotre, but a cop saw me and took the opportunity to give me a ticket. I also got a ticket for doing 15 km an hour over the limit. I would rather not mention these tickets knowing that my rate will go up. Do all insurance companies check on this, or if I state I have no tickets, is there a chance that this will not be assessed ?

What will be the difference in what I will pay if I choose any of the the following options for Driver’s Occupation :

1. Not Currently Employed
2. Retired
3 Teacher

——————————————

Answer by Judy
Your insurance company will know about your tickets. 100%.
Do not lie about the mileage or how much you drive or times you drive.
If you are caught in an accident, they can deny your claim if you mislead them.
Put retired or instructor – do not put unemployed.
/

Answer by R B
Put down the seat belt violation as it should not affect your rates. The speeder might kick you out of a low rate plan so ideal to indicate you can not recall on any others. If they find it then you can admit to it.
divorced and single are the same and instructor is a good choice for occupation. It is doubtful that there is a rate difference between the 3 choices.

Answer by mbrcatz
Divorced and single usually pay the same rate.

Some states, offer discounts to clergy, or teachers, and use the same application in all states. They do want to know what you do for a living – but it’s more of a “do we want to insure a guy who’s going to be driving into tornados to photograph them” than actually affect the RATE.

All insurance companies will check for tickets – but not until after you commit to purchase the policy.

As honest as you are on your application, is as how good your quote and policy will be.

If you lie to save money, that is called insurance fraud, and at best, will cause your bank account to be debited hundreds of extra dollars you were not counting on when you get caught, and at worst will flat out void your coverage.

They will find out. You will regret it, and end up being mad at the insurance company for “screwing” you over, when they catch YOU lying.

——————————————
