CAR REPOSSESSION, CHANGE OF ADDRESS, LIENHOLDER INSURANCE INFO?
Nov 22nd
Question by justice4008:
car repossession, change of address, lienholder insurance info?
I moved from MN to CA, changed insurance companies and forgot to notify the automobile lien holder of my address change. One year later, my automobile just got repossessed because the lien holder did not have information of proof of insurance and sent notices to my last known address, so they added their own insurance and raised my monthly automobile payments. I was not aware of the defaults due to the higher automobile payment rates, as automatic monthly withdrawals in the same amount were made for the past year: looking at the statements online, everything looked normal. When I was insured in MN, I never had to notify the lien holder that I had continuous proof of insurance, as my old provider did it on its own. When I came to CA, the insurance broker maybe did not even ask about the lienholder and for sure did not communicate with it. Should the lien holder have tried another way to contact me, such as via my bank, and should the CA agent have inquired about and sent the info to lienholder?
Ok, it is good to see the range of perspectives.
Detail highlights, I suppose it might help others looking for answers:
- change of address: I called a few times at the beginning to change the address but the line was always busy–the ideal answer as someone else pointed out–send a letter in writing if calls do not get through and there is no on the web change of address box.
– yes, if the agent knew about the lien holder, the standard practice is to notify the lien holder; however, my question was who has to raise the issue, would an agent as part of her job ask about any lien holder/loss payee or is it up to the client?
- re: partial payments, not sure if acceptance prevents repossession, good question.
- the other question: are people liable if they did not know they owed the money? but it goes back to notice and address change.
- another Q: the lender stated it will not reinstate the loan, not because of wrongdoing, but because they do not want to loan in CA as they are in MN.

CAN A CAR DEALER FRAUD ME IF THEY HAVE MY BANK APP WITH INFO AND OTHER PERSONAL INFO?
Oct 27th
Question by Mike:
Can a automobile dealer fraud me if they have my bank app with info and other personal info?
Long story short,
I went to a small local automobile dealership with my parents yesterday to compare one more automobile before I decided which to choose. I had such a bad feeling about this guy since he kept pushing his own financing instead of our credit union and wouldn’t be specific on warranty terms, he kept telling my parents we get a lemon law warranty even though I was asking him about a 60 day dealers warranty, but he convinced my parents to do whatever he wanted and also convinced them that I am just a child (22) and I don’t know what I’m speaking about. I walk out on the deal but he has all our info still.
The dealer now has photocopies of our:
SSN numbers
Bank application with our signatures
Licenses
Mom’s paystubs
2 current bills
Copy of Current automobile insurance info
Copy of Current registration info
Copy of our current automobile title.
What can he do with all of this info? I have been reading about retail installment sales contracts and I’m a tiny nervous that he could do something fraudulent.

WHY IS THERE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN INSURANCE QUOTES IF ALL INFO IS THE SAME?
Jul 9th
Question by ☆skyblue:
Why is there a large difference in insurance quotes if all info is the same?
I’m shopping around for insurance quotes because I thought my automobile insurance was too high. Progressive gave me a very low quote, which I was happy about. It was what I thought I should be paying compared to friends I have talked with. All the other quotes from the other insurance companies were in the same price range and very high. I began to worry that Progressive had some incorrect info, so I called them back, we went over all the info again, and everything is right. They even emailed my quote to me and it’s all correct. Should I be worried that the quote is so low or is Progressive just being competetive?

Q&A: INFO ON TRAINING FOR AUTO COLLOSION ESTIMATING?
May 30th
Question by sumo_303:
Info on training for auto collosion estimating?
I started a new job 3 days ago as an auto collision estimator with no experience whatsoever aside from working in an insurance claims call center. I really like it an want to do well. Though I am being told that I am doing great and that it comes in time I was wondering if there was anyone out there that knew where I could find some resources to assist me in learning even faster? Any help that anyone can offer would be great. I have been searching on the web and there doesn’t seem to be any options for me here in Denver. I am thinking I could definitely make a career out of this and I want to excel and prove to my management what the opportunity I have been given means to me. Thanks!

Q&A: CAR INSURANCE – SOME INFO ONLINE SAYS IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT MY COLLISSION INSURANCE SHOULD PAY NOT ONLY FOR?
Aug 20th
Question by heart_and_troll:
Car insurance – some info on the web states if I have an accident my collission insurance should pay not only for?
repairs but also for the dimunition in value of the automobile (e.g., it’s no longer a automobile that is never been in an accident, for which a buyer might pay a bit more). My Calif ins agent says, on behalf of the major national insurer for which he is a captive agent, ‘no’. Who’s right?

CA AUTO INSURANCE QUOTES. IS THERE A SITE TO GET INFO WITHOUT GIVING THEM MY PERSONAL INFO?
Jul 30th
Question by D D:
CA auto insurance quotes. Is there a site to get info without giving them my personal info?
I just want basic information on auto insruance rates without giving them all my personal details so that I can get all that junk mail, phone calls at dinner, etc. Can I get that anywhere?
Of course I know I have to enter basic info, but they do not need my exac address, my phone number, my DL#, etc.
Also, does anyone know at what point do you have to add your teenager to your policy? The DMV states it’s when they are actually getting their license, but my insurer has sent papers to specifically exclude my daughter who is currently working on getting her license. If they will not add a permitted driver (non-licensed driver) how can we let her drive and learn if she is specifically excluded from having insurance?
What are these first 2 answers, spam? So much for real help or what?
Looks like my question is a spam magnet…

Jul 13th
Question by CZ94:
Where can I find automobile insurance quotes without having to give ALL of my info?
It’s just for a school project and I am making up a fake person so I’d really rather not give out a phone number or address. I know the state, age, credit, car, etc matter and all that but I just need an estimate based on only a few criteria. Please help!
