Answer by loveicefishin
Vancouver like the rest of the major cities in Canada is very expensive. It is about 2 hours from Seattle. It is however, extremely beautiful in terms of scenery. The mountains and forests are simply MAJESTIC. That alone, could be worth the extra premiums that Canadians pay for all their goods and services. Wow! Stuff that costs $ 1 here in the US, costs at least $ 3 in Canada. And the Canadian Dollar to US Dollar is $ 1.10 to $ 1.00. So there is nothing more than a dime difference right now. Exchange rate USED to be $ 1.60 just a few years ago. US Dollar is down DOWN DOWN.

Answer by Grand pa
disregard The first answer here.. The cost of living not bad..We live in Burnaby.. Pay $ 650.00 for 1 bed room nice apt, 1 block from metrotown electric$ 27.00 heat is included $ 96.00 for medicare for two people Hospital treatment free.Weather not bad it rains a lot similar to seattle. Ideal to get bus pass.. transit not bad Money is nearly par.. lots of work The Olympics are comming…See tourismvancouver.. hellobc,,,,feel free to emai lme

Question by anonymous:
Does the new Health Care law mean we have to purchase insurance like auto insurance?
If yes, what happens to people who can’t afford to purchase insurance? Will they check somehow, like when you get your driver’s license or fill out tax forms or what? If people do not have insurance because they can’t afford it, will they figure out a way to fine you like they would if you did not carry auto insurance?

Thanks in advance for your help.

——————————————

Answer by Andrew S Offend and defend
You’re in up to the neck in IRS alligators.

It’s a tiny late to be asking this now is not it?

Well perhaps not. The bill can be repealed.

“Boustany stated the bill would grant the IRS to confiscate refunds if there are penalties for not buying health care.”

Answer by giginotgigi
If tou can afford, you should purchase medical insurance. The health care plan is to protect your insurance: note in many cases insurance can cancel your insurance if you got serious illness such as cancer. In such situation, the government would accept your insurance. This put your insurance with those who can’t afford any insurance.

Answer by Ingrid
Since ware are supposed to be the richest country in the world, how come people can’t pay for Health Insurance as People do even in third world countries? What am I missing?
Te bill has provisions – as always – how to take care of the truly needy among us.

I need to make some money, but not a lot and I need flexible hours. It seems like it would be easy, but there must be a catch. Is it too boring to bear or hard or anything? I do not need a whole lot of money, just enough to have some spending money and be able to pay about 100$ a month for cell and automobile insurance. Thanks for any advice!!

Answer by Zal
Hi!

I lost my job few years ago and after that I just could not find a new one. Nobody was hiring. I am so glad that my friend told me about this…
I work from home for few years now. The company is legit and has been on the market since 1999. They pay me each time – no issues. I can show you my paypal account, so you can make sure! You can begin for free and work whenever you have time.

But, if you decide to work from home (online), you need somebody to show you what do you have to do, otherwise u will do too many unnecessary things. I started on my own, and I was not making any progress for quite a while.

Please take a look at video on my web site. You will get the idea what is it all about. I would like you to watch it because you can see payment proof in it, so you will know that I am not lying or anything. Video : http://tinyurl.com/workfromhomelegit

If you decide to join use that link, so I will be your sponsor and I will be able to help you get started and along the way.

Question by Yenta:
Who wastes time like this?
I came home form work the last Thursday and Friday to a full answering machine with messages for a person named Julian Sweet (I do not know who that is and his name is nowhere near my name). “Julian” apparently was on the web early Thursday and made MANY on the web requests for various services – home based businesses, auto/home/health insurance, travel packages, etc. and left my phone number in the request. We are speaking hundreds of requests. In the last three days I have had over 90 phone calls from different businesses seeking “Julian.” This day I started receiving mail for “Julian”. One of the items was for a new home owner’s insurance policy quote – and based upon the details in the proposal, this person knew my address, the year the home was built, a correct value, when the wiring was last checked… the whole nine yards.

Aside from being irritating and annoying, should I be worried about this? A friend of mine stated that there are people who can with “one click” enter my information on the web and it is sent to hundreds of companies and it will look like I want their services. Is this true? And does anyone know how to make this stop, aside from changing my phone number and moving?

Thanks for your help…
I have lived at this address and had this phone number for ten years. I tried to think if there was anyone I had angered recently but I am drawing a blank. I do not really have “enemies”… it’s crazy.

——————————————

Answer by Fireball226
yes and its disgusting….if youre home when they call just state take me off your list and they have to….also call the phone comapny about harassment..

Answer by pompeii
Have you fallen out with anyone close recently? Got any disgruntled exes? Or, if you have recently moved in, could the previous occupier be this Julian Sweet? Maybe he has fallen out or split up with someone and they are trying to get their revenge, not knowing that he is moved on.

It’s probably just to cause you hassle, but I would do a credit check to ensure there was not anything fishy going on, and I’d also tell my bank and credit card companies. I’d also switch off my answering machine when I was out so they could not leave messages.

I do not know if you can do the same thing where you are, but I’d be inclined to write ‘Not known at this address – return to sender’ on all (unopened) envelopes that come addressed to Mr Sweet, and pop them back in the mail.

Hopefully eventually they will get fed up and stop. If not, and you cannot work out who might be doing it, you should perhaps have a word with the police.

Answer by katavis
you superior be careful it sounds like to me that maybe this person is trying to steel your identity, call the police and find out who you need to speak to, to look into this problem i would be scared. there are CRAZY PEOPLE out there and if they have all the info about your home and have your address’ phone number what else do they have? you should seriously do something and do it now do not play around with this keep all emails and phone messages. maybe they can track this person down.

——————————————

Question by Cody T:
My parents have previously claimed me on taxes, this year I would like to claim myself but am unsure on laws.?
Im 19 years old, am a full-time student, and work a part-time job. I made $ 18,000 last year, I pay for my school, car, auto insurance, and other recreational expenses. My parents do not charge me any rent or utilities to live here and I also get free health insurance for being a full-time student. We found out I will be cut off there insurance in Might when I graduate. We were preparing my taxes on the web and found out that with them claiming me I would owe $ 33. However If I claimed myself I would receive $ 1100 back. Could I be dropped off their health insurance and then claim myself on taxes. What would my ideal course of action be?

——————————————

Answer by to love is to live
I claimed myself this year, and I am still on my parents’ health insurance. And my return went through and was fine. So I do not think you will have a problem. As long as your parents know that they cannot claim you this year. But I was reading up on the rules, and you have to have lived on your own for the majority of the year, so you might not be able to file independent. Check the IRS website to be sure.

Answer by Tomk
Your ideal course of action is to discuss this with your parents. They furnished you housing and health care in 2007. If they did not pay for education, it looks like you might have provided more than 50% of your own support for the year.

It is ideal to work this out amicibly with your parents if you can. They MAY be claiming a Hope or Lifetime learning Credit for your college expenses even though you state they are not paying the tuition and fees for you. They should not be claiming an education credit if you are paying for your own education. YOU, however, qualify to claim the credit. In your case, the Lifetime Learning Credit would probably get you the most credit.

Again, you have to live with these guys, so do not end up getting thrown out on the street in order to get a thousand buck refund. Your housing cost (and I envision you are getting some free eats there at home sometimes too) will far exceed the money you might otherwise get back.

How you file your taxes has nothing to do with the healthcare insurance unless they get mad and drop you off themselves.

Be sure, however, that if YOU are paying the tuition and fees, YOU are claiming the education credit you are entitled to.

Answer by meagain56
To figure it you provided over half of your support you have to figure out the costs of lodging, (fair market rental value) food expense, utilities, fixes to the home .for the entire household. Divide that total by the number of people living in the house.

Next figure out how much was spent on your clothing, education, dental and health not paid by insurance, travel and recreation and add that total to the total from above and divide it by 50%. If you spent more than that amount you provided over half of your own support.

Question by Richard:
Need somebody who can think like a Yahoo Answers moderator?
I answered a question here, and it was flagged. I thought the answer was good, and I could not see where it was against the community guidelines, so I appealed the flag. However, I ended up losing — the Yahoo Answer moderator (not sure what they are really called) decided it was a solicitation. However, I cannot see it. Do they think I am soliciting on behalf of Google or Bing?

Here’s the answer and their decision:

“Can you pay monthly vs. yearly or semi-annually? $ 2000 per year, while it looks like a lot, is probably pretty decent given the situation. Actually — that is $ 166 monthly (plus some fees if you actually pay monthly).. that is not bad at all, sorry to say, and I have not been 18 for a long time… I paid much more than that. You should look into high risk auto insurance providers. I know that around here, they advertise on local Television all the time — ‘insurance for as low as $ 45′ — while it’s virtually impossible to get insurance that low, I was paying less with Titan Insurance than I was quoted for Allstate, Progressive, and Say Farm (about $ 3,000 yearly)… You will not get a rate anywhere near that, but these flat-rate, high risk providers tend to offer lower rates for high risk drivers than mainstream insurers do. To find a high risk insurance provider (broker, preferably) locally, search Google or Bing for ‘high risk auto insurance’ + state name + city name (or some variations without the quotes). For instance, if you live near Birmingham Alabama, search for ‘high risk auto insurance birmingham al’ or something like that. Google might be superior as they tend to provide local listings alongside the web-based listings. Alternately, get a quote from each single insurance company that you can find. It’ll take a lot of work, but if you use an on the web insurance broker (they help you get quotes from multiple insurance companies simultaneously), it’ll save you some time. Good luck.”

Violation Reason: Solicitation
Well, I always have lost my appeals… but on this one, I thought it was a helpful answer, so I tried to fight it.

Maybe it’s not possible to win an appeal, then? That is quite ridiculous if that is the case.
It was not just the initial report, it was after my appeal and when the Yahoo Answers staff or their contractors decided this was a solicitation.

After the first answer here, I got to thinking about it — I have appealed a small handful of flags since I started on here, and I have lost each appeal, though this is the only one that I can think of that told me which Community Guideline I violated.

It’s just aggravating to put in a decent effort to answer a question to have some slow-wit with tenuous grasp on basic word meanings and context to state this as a solicitation.

In the grand scheme of things, this is not a huge deal… I just have tiny tolerance for incompetence… and it irritates me because their reasoning doesn’t make any sense.
Riki – no offense meant, as you apparently have spent a great deal of time here — but answers ARE suggestions. People are coming here to seek help — recommendations — and if recommendations are solicitations, almost each single useful answer on this service is in violation of your version of the Community Guidelines.

It’s totally ludicrous to even entertain the thought that a question and answers community prohibits users from giving others recommendations in their terms of service / rules.
Riki – I apologize — in re-reading your answer a few times, I have come to the conclusion that you probably meant you were giving me a suggestion, not that you were suggesting that recommendations were solicitations.

Which, I would compare my poor interpretation to the deplorable job the moderators did with my appeal… but it’s different as it’s their ‘job’. Though, again — I apologize for my ‘dimwittedness’.

I’m just going to drop it — I have let this trivial thing consume too much of my energy today.

Thanks for all of your responses.

——————————————

Answer by Arizona FAN
DUDE UR ALWAYS GONA LOOSE AGAINST THE YAHOO TEAM

Answer by stephen k
Someone skimmed the answer and filed the report. I see nothing wrong with this answer as you are not saying ‘Go with Titan Insurance’.

Answer by Age of Reason
Appeal. You were not soliciting but posting the Fact the question sought.

——————————————

Question by Kristy B:
Geico Customers: How do you like your automobile insurance with Geico?
I am considering switching my automobile insurance to Geico. My current insurance is charging me $ 133 a month for an 02′ Chevy Cavalier, 2 door. They state because it is a ‘sports car,’ insurance is higher. A Cavalier is a sports car??? Hmmm…

Anyway, I did an on the web quote from Allstate and Geico this day and Geico is willing to charge about $ 75 for the same thing I am paying $ 133 for at Nationwide. All Coverage seems to be the same (ie Bodily Insurance Liability is 100,000/300,000 just like my nationwide and so on. Should I switch? Tell me good/bad things about your experiences with Geico?

——————————————

Answer by BELLE
I have had Geico for about 3 years and I really like them. The customer service is excellent which means a lot to me with so many companies I deal with having horrible customer service. I also switched to them because they were cheaper. I have been very happy with them. I filed one claim and they took care of it with no problems. I completely advocate them.

Answer by Gal from Yellow Flat
I used to have e-surance and they charged me $ 138/month for liability on two older cars. When I got a a rate increase notice, I changed to Geico. I now pay $ 38/month.

I’ve never had a claim so I do not know how they handle that, but I am thrilled with their price.

Answer by patandchar1
I have had Geico for about 2 years and I have not had any problems.
I had an accident about a year ago that was not my fault and I called Geico and they took care of everything for me.
I would definitely advocate them.

Question by aelp:
How much do you pay for auto insurance? What company do you like best?
I currently have Say Farm for my auto and homeowners insurance but I am trying to get a lower payment. I have heard that SF is one of the more costly companies… is this true?

Thanks!

——————————————

Answer by Insuranceman
State Farm has just had some rate increases in various areas – it depends on where you live.

Typically, insurance rates will vary from Say to Say and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor car report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement.

The ideal thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Do not go across town, or to some other city – look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Huge I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he can’t help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with “less than perfect” driving records and specialize in young operators!

Most of the replies on this site state “go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number” but I am sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal personal user with a script to work from and you will not be able to speak with the same person each time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

Answer by country_girl
yes they are one of the more costly companies
you should try and find a cheaper company
check out www.geico.com
they have super service, excellent road side assistance and are much cheaper.
I have been with them for 4 years now and only pay $ 30 a month

Answer by gail t
I do not think that the company matters, as long as you got an agent that is reliable, that helps you when you need help. some agents is just in insurance for a paycheck, when others will help you no matter what the problem is. some agents do not tell you that your drivers license is not valid, then you get stop by the policeman and he tells you. the you are woundering why my agent did not tell me that.

——————————————
Everyone is familiar with how automobile insurance works. Its available to all. Its pretty cheap. They cannot drop you from coverage even if you are a drunk driver. Once you have a accident they dont raise you rates too much.

Why cannot health care be more like Geico (insurance) and your local automobile repair man (doctor) and the DMV (government help)?

——————————————

Answer by Typical Oregon Person
Cars do not have babies for starters.

Answer by BC outside
it wont be as profitable, Healthcare in America is a business not a service. If I owned a hospital or an insurance company why would I want to charge people less when I could charge them more.

Answer by The Hearse Driver
Brain surgery. So simple even a caveman can do it.
