Question by :
Why are the local prices for auto insurance lower than on the web prices ?
Earlier this day I called a local say farm bureau and they gave me a quote of $ 88 a month with liability but when I went on the web to purchase insurance, they gave me a quote of $ 137 a month with liability..I’m confused

——————————————

Answer by Livvi
State Farm gave you more personalized service, assessed your needs better. Say Farm is not a rinky dink company, they have the tools and processes in place to quote based on many different factors. I bet you came out in the ideal rating group (Mutual) which is something many world wide web companies do not offer — there is probably only one rating group, whereas Say Farm has different levels.

Answer by StephenWeinstein
Each insurance company uses the same formula to create quotes for on the web customers and for customers who use local agents, except that Progressive advertises a discount (lower price) for buying online. If the on the web quite was from Say Farm, then the information that the agent entered in their personal was different than the information you entered on the website. if you are sure that you entered everything correctly, then the on the web Say Farm quote is correct and the quote from the agent is wrong.

Answer by mbrcatz
They’re not. Auto insurance rates are highly regulated, so if you purchase the exact same coverage from the exact same company with the exact same rating factors, the price is exactly the same.

Many of those “rate comparison” places are trying to steer you to a different company (that’s paying them) so they will give you artifically high (fake) rates. And some of them are only trying to harvest your personal information to sell it, so they will also give you fake rates.

You cannot purchase Say Farm insurance online, you have to use an agent. So clearly, they are trying to push you to purchase from someone else with lower rates.

——————————————

Question by :
Why do children with lower grades pay more for automobile insurance?
And would a kid with a C average compared to a kid with a A average pay the same after 1 year of both them having a clean driving record and no accidents… if not that is bs…. grades shouldn’t come into play it should be how good of a driver you are its unfair to do that

I am so sick and exhausted of how good grades get you this that….. I have a c- average in high school and i dont do any drugs or alcohol or w/e.I workout on a daily basis, eat right, and i am extremely physically fit. I really just hate school and never put my mind to it.
answer the whole question please would they pay the same after a year with a clean driving record
one of my points is that success in life as a lot to do with putting your mind to it… i have a estimated 164 iq… but i dont do well in school why?… because i have no interest

——————————————

Answer by Randy F
the insurance company feels that if you pay attention in school you will pay more attention to the road.

Answer by multip
This is just my guess, but insurance is absolutely statistics based, that is how they make money. Statistically, low grades are an indicator that a person is more likely to be in a automobile accident. This doesn’t mean that low grades cause you to be a bad driver, or vice versa, just that those who tend to crash their automobiles often also tend to do poorly in school.

Answer by Justin
Insurance companies play a game of statistics. They want to insure drivers that are statistically the least likely to get into accidents.

Good grades are, generally, a sign of good judgment, and good judgment is usually a sign that the driver they have insured wont cause them to have to pay out on a claim.

So, they offer discounts to students with good grades.

——————————————

Answer by jessie
about 25

Answer by RoofingPrincess
18, and then 25
I got quotes for my son when he was 16, and was pleasantly surprised when he finally got his license at 18 to see the price was lower. The agent stated it was because of his age. He turned 25 earlier this year and the premium for the automobile my son drives dropped substantially.

Question by nochanceiswhatugot:
How to lower my insurance?
I have a 1999 Bmw in black… I am 18 and have had my license for a few months. I have good grades in college. But they anticipate me to pay 5000 for insurance? Can I put my fathers insurance on my car? My father has a really cheap rate compare to mine… but would he get in trouble if I get into an accident?

——————————————

Answer by mbrcatz
I’m guessing you have “full coverage” on that car. If so, the ideal way to lower your rate, is to drop the collision coverage off your car.

You can also probably get a significant discount – 20% or so, by buying renters insurance. Even if you live at home and do not pay rent, you can purchase a $ 100 policy, and get maybe $ 1,000 off the cost of the automobile insurance. Worth it!

Answer by D
Get a different automobile or shop around for different insuruers. Your automobile is probably not worth $ 5,000. You could get a newer more reliable car. BMW’s from 1999 are very unreliable and costly to fix. Get out of that money pit.

——————————————

Question by sillygirl:
How to lower my automobile insurance with driver training courses? 10 PTS?
I have had my license for 3 years but Im 19 and of course my rates are through the roof. Ive never had any accidents or even got pulled over. That gives me a discount. I want to take a driving course but Im unsure which one I should take. I see there are classes on the web so should I take those or a driving class that I actually get in the automobile and go driving with an instructor. Idk any info on this would help a lot. 10 pts for most helpful answer
I have an 02 dodge neon
also my current rate is 229 it is full coverage

——————————————

Answer by Taylor
not a good investment. save ten dollars a month and spend 400 for a class, or just suck up ten dollars????just purchase a automobile older than a 2001, they are cheap.
mines 250$ a month just liability. mines a newer automobile though

Answer by Steve D
Call your insurance company – ask how much you can save by taking the class and which classes they authorize. Just because something is offered as a safe drivers class does not mean your insurance company thinks about it sufficient for you to receive the discount.

Question by MykO OooooOOo:
Auto rate quotes, lower credit score?
So does anyone know if obtaining a rate quote for your auto insurance or obtaining a rate quote on auto loans will lower your credit score? Im in the market for buying a new automobile and i was hoping to obtain as many quotes as possible to see my options. Do they actually run your credit or do they just take the information you give them and provide an estimate? Any assistance would be helpful, thanks!

——————————————

Answer by Entidtil
so…………..Shopping for insurance is called a “soft” inquiry and has no effect on your credit score…..so

so

so

Answer by mbrcatz
Getting automobile insurance, the hit for the quote, is a SOFT hit, and will not affect your credit score. Getting the LOAN for the car, though, is a HARD hit and WILL affect your credit score. That means, purchase the insurance first, for the ideal rate.

Some companies will give you an estimate, and not actually run your credit until you purchase the policy – especially on the web sites. That makes for a really unsightly surprise sometimes, when you actually go to purchase the policy.

Question by Candler:
Any way to lower my NJ auto insurance quote?
Hi All. I was hit by a automobile 2 years ago and lost my leg just above the knee. I was deathly afraid of auto travel for a long time and worked in NYC, so no huge deal. Now I have a job being offered to me in northern NJ and need a automobile to get to work. I priced out policies for an old F-150 I have access to and when answering truthfully about my involvement in the accident, the rates shot up like crazy.

Being that I was struck my the automobile and not the one charged with anything, do I have to claim this?

Thanks,
CT

——————————————

Answer by Gleba
It might not simply be a result of the accident, especially if you were not liable.

If you have not had insurance coverage continuously, your rates will be higher.

You live in NYC, your rates will be higher than in NJ.

If you do not own the automobile you are driving, the rates will be higher.

They’ll run your license and know that you have been in an accident, so there is no use lying.

Take a safe driving course, join a club that gives you a bit of a discount, and ask for a rate reduction after 1 year.

——————————————

Answer by kelly_f_1999
well superior to call three or four places in the top five of being the highest. and they go by age type of automobile and sure if one is married

Answer by thatgirl
Yes, when my husband and I got married our premiums dropped significantly. My rates only dropped slightly (maybe 5%) — but his dropped about 30%.

Answer by Chickie
For drivers in their twenties being married can sometimes put you in a different pricing tier than being single, which might result in a lower rate. After age 30 being married or not usually makes no difference. Since you have 2 automobiles you will get a multi-car discount, which is usually anywhere from 10% to 30% depending on the company, so you will probably notice some savings from that.

….you know what I mean !?……….

——————————————

Answer by me
Insurance companies do not pull your credit. It will not affect your score. And when you are shopping around for a car for each three inquiries from auto dealers it only counts as one because they know that people need to shop around and get the ideal deal. It’s not like credit cards where each one you apply for counts as an inquiry.

Answer by PeterJ
It has no effect on your credit score….they will check your credit score to see if you have credit for insurance. Thats all.

Hope this helped

Answer by Laura F
If you lookin for some real cheap insurance get the dollar a day insurance $ 365.00 a year!

Question by Alex G:
Where to get the cheapest automobile insurance for new driver, and which combinations of options, to get it lower?
I am 17 and lice in Hartlepool in England and I have got a 1.2 mk2 3 door Fiat Punto. And i need insurance, apparently Adrian Flux is cheep for young drivers, but just over a month ago i was quoted £1800, and now that i need it i am being quoted 2600, y? I was also surprised when i found out that my automobile is a group 4 insurance, with it being a tiny 60bhp 1.2 compared to my mates 130bhp automobile being a group 5. I can’t go on my mams insurance either as she can only drive an automatic. So I considered selling my Punto and try getting an automatic to go on my mams insurance as she has over 10 year no claims, but her £200 insurance went up to £2500. I guss a lot of the price being because of where we live, there was multistory flats, in a huge estate, and was a bad area, but now they have been knocked down and is now a new modern housing area. Is there anywhere I can contact, to come prove it is a nice area now? Thanks

——————————————

Answer by Little Dan
you need a boring older automobile that is off of its loan , you want basic coverage and a high deductible …in the says progressive insurance is one of the best. not sure about your country , call and ask some places for quotes on base coverage.

Answer by entidtil
I doubt that just because the buildings have been razed, the insurance will go down. It is worth trying to inform them of this, though. I am guessing the type of automobile you insure has less to do with the rates, than where you live and your age.

——————————————
