Question by Manny:
How much approximately does auto insurance go up after getting a speeding ticket?
What would you do . . .
a) Pay the fine and take the Defensive driving course – It doesn’t go on your driving record
b) Go to court and gamble – if the officer shows up you pay and it goes on your record, your auto insurance goes up- if the officer doesn’t show up you record remains clean, you do not pay – case dismissed

——————————————

Answer by Seven53
I get paid 4 hours overtime to show up at court, even if I am there for ten minutes.. If I do not show, I get suspended for a day. What do you think I do?

Answer by CGIV76
To get the correct answer, contact your insurance company. Any other answer would be pure speculation.

Answer by Dog Lover
You should take driving school and avoid the points.

If you “gamble” and go to court, because 98 % of the time the officer will be there, you will get full fine, full points, court costs AND probably court ordered driving school.

As far as the insurance, it depends on your company and their policies on the issue. I have heard people tell me that their insurance did not increase for one ticket… and I have had people tell me their insurance company cancelled them for one ticket!

Its private business. They are not requried to keep you. They want to minimize their risk while maximizing profits.

I’d like to know what the average monthly payment is for reasonable automobile insurance, to see if the quotes I am getting are reasonable. This is for a UK driver with more than 15yrs driving experience.

Also, what would be a reasonable amount if you added a newly qualified driver as a secondary driver to that.

The automobile is a 2006 Ford Galaxy. I know it all depends with the other extras etc, but I just want to get a rough idea what is the average monthly insurance that would be reasonable to expect.

The answer above is technically incorrect as we all know, females are risk takers as well, we see this on a daily basis, just drive around and see. Anywhere in the USA

Answer by Designer~Wife
Because teen males, followed closely by teen females are the highest risk group on the roads to cause accidents.

Question by QueAndAy:
Auto Insurance coverage — How much Liability and Medical?
I got a couple of questions about about auto insurance coverage. Namely, what is the ideal amount of liability and medical coverage to select. 1) For the liability, I know it’s wise to get the ideal liability that one can afford to cover your assets. But how about if one also gets umbrella coverage. For example, if one gets an umbrella coverage at a $ 2 million limit and the liability limit for the auto insuarance is $ 300,000 or $ 500,000, does it make sense to choose the $ 500,000 or is it superior to choose the $ 300,000 limit since the umbrella coverage would kick in? 2) for medical, is this redundant coverage and not needed because would not the liability portion also cover medical expenses? Or is it wise to get this, for example, if a passenger is not insured (no health insurance), so the medical part would help out in that case?

Thanks.

——————————————

Answer by Nate W
1)Each company will have a minimum limit of liability for each type of policy that the umbrella covers. In my company for instance, the umbrella requires 250,000/500,000 in liability coverage for autos. It would be redundant to add more b/c the umbrella will kick in on any claims higher than 250,000/500,000. Find out what the minimum amount of liability is for your company and set it there.

2)Edit* Sorry to change my answer, but I realized that really this really varies say to say and did not want to give you bad advice. An insurance agent in your say will be able to give you a much more accurate answer than you will find here.

Personal Umbrella Policies or PUPs are fantastic for anyone with assets over $ 500,000. By nature they are fairly comprehensive and extremely inexpensive for the coverage they offer.
Hope this helps!

Answer by ltlrthquakes
1 – liability coverage is very cheap. The difference between the 300 and the 500 is probably only dollars a year.

When you begin an umbrella policy, the insurance company has certain limits that you have to have. Usually it is the highest that they have – (ie 25, 50, 100, 300, 500). They wont cover you until the first part has been attained – ie if they want you to have a limit of 500K and yours is only 300K they wont cover you until you hit the 500. (you would be responsible for the difference). I am sure you have a respectable agent that would ensure that you are adequately covered to prevent this from happening.

As for the medical coverage – this would cover passengers in your automobile etc… There would also be a threshold that you would have to meet prior to the umbrella policy picking up the tab. I would advocate getting this coverage because it, like liability, is also very cheap.

Answer by God
please try this

Question by CaseNut:
Insurance claim taking too much time?
I was involved in an accident which was my fault, beyond doubt. No one was injured and the damage to the other automobile would be between $ 1000 and $ 2000. No damage to my car. My insurance company is Progressive, and they made me an on the web account once I filed a claim, with which I can check the status of the claim.

It’s been a month now, and the payment details have not been completed yet. I am not anticipating get any money since my automobile was not damaged, but shouldn’t they be completed with the paperwork already?

——————————————

Answer by MSAD
Not necessarily.

The other celebration might not have settled with them yet. They could have extended an offer to the other guy and he did not like and has not accepted. The other celebration might be making it difficult for Progressive to inspect the car. The other celebration might not be returning the Progressive adjusters phone calls. The other celebration could have chosen to use his own collision coverage to pay for the damage to his automobile and Progressive is waiting for the subrogation paperwork from the other carrier.

The other celebration might be claiming injury and still treating. Just because they did not claim an injury at the scene does not mean they will not claim one later. In which case it could easily be a year or more before the claim closes.

Lots of reasons why the claim is not closed. Since you are not making a claim on your car just check it in another month or so.

——————————————

Question by Tranquilo:
How much can I anticipate automobile insurance to cost if I am female, and have a used car? What is the range?
I am looking for a car, I do not have a lot of money, and I’d like to have an idea how much my insurance would cost me. I am female, and a first time driver. Can anyone give me a price range?

——————————————

Answer by mbrcatz17
from nothing, if you put it on your parent’s policy, to uninsurable.

Sorry, range depends on LOCATION, type of car, how much coverage you need, your credit score, driving record, etc.

Answer by Monique L. Attinger
In addition to the other characteristics that your first answer mentions, you are likely to pay more if you are younger or a first time driver. As mentioned, your ideal way to be fully insured and keep costs down is if your automobile is insured under your parent’s policy, if at all possible.

Answer by CaseyAngelEyes
It would depend mostly on your age. But, female & used automobile should be pretty cheap. You might want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before.

I’m a 21 year old college student. Im going on to my junior year and have just gotten a car. I have always gotten a ride with my friends. I got a quote from Farmers Insurance for $ 2600 for 6 months full coverage is that normal?

Answer by thepenismightier
That’s pretty expensive, but probably par for the course for young drivers and first-time automobile owners.

If you can manage it, you will be much superior off being insured on your parents’ policy. But check other quotes out as well (try going through an insurance broker instead of an agent, or find a web site that lets you submit your data and compare rates).

Answer by sammysdaddy
When you are a young man, you pay out the nose for automobile insurance. They state it has to do with us being inmature, drive/race, things like that. When you hit 25 it should drop way down, as long as you have a good record. Look around and shop other companies. Try pricing health insurance for a young woman! It will blow your socks off. lol

Answer by kupao1502
what automobile do you drive? Im 19, and i purchased a 2007 scion tC, i pay insurance $ 215 a month so around $ 1290 in that six month contract. But $ 2600, thats like $ 433 each month right? Geez i thought i was paying a lot! Anyway, it depends what automobile your driving, your location, driving violations/history and whats in your premium (deductible and stuff). Im with statefarm. Someone had told me i can go somewhere more lower, you should look around more too! And im from seattle, WA. by the way.

Answer by sirestars
Try these.

Question by burnoutx13:
Changing the color of my car? How much does the DMV charge to change my registration?
I am from Illinois.

Car is currently blue, but I will be repainting it Desert Sage Metallic in the spring, which is a greenish color.

I know I need to inform the DMV of the color change, but should I contact insurance as well? I dont want to get hassled and stopped constantly because my plates come back to a blue automobile when its green.

Where can I find more information about this online?

——————————————

Answer by Jim
I certainly would not worry about it right now. When you are near a dmv ask your question directly or phone them.

Answer by Entidtil
In the USA, I have never heard of having to notify the DMV of a color change.

Answer by oklatom
Car color is not on title or registration, and the insurance doesn’t even ask what color the automobile is when you get a policy. What made you think you needed to notify the DMV?

http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/vehicles/title_registration/apply.html never even mentions color.

For a teens car. I know it is about sixty extra dollars just to add a teen to my automobile insurance. Can you estimate price for putting a whole new automobile on our plan for my teen?

——————————————

Answer by MVD34
Estimate?

If it is a similar car, figure it will probably double your insurance if the teen is the primary driver of the additional car.

If the teen is not the primary driver, 50% more to your current amount.

Answer by mbrcatz
Somewhere between $ 2,000 and $ 6,000, or maybe more if it’s a new/expensive car.

Answer by Top Gun
Call your insurance company. Have the teens take Drivers Training in high school. For boys the insurance will be a lot higher.
