Hmmm, EXCELLENT question! I think the reason you were getting lower quotes on the web rather than in person (assuming same carrier) was that the extra costs go into paying for rent, utilities, salaries, commissions, etc. That is how certain carriers (e.g. USAA, GEICO, etc.) can offer lower rates since they sell mostly by mail, phone or the Web. The only downside I could see is that you might not get personal service if you need it (if you purchase online, especially if the carrier doesn’t have agents’ offices as some do as you saw). For instance, if you call a toll-free number for something, chances are that you will not get to speak to the same person more than once.

Surprising as it might seem, the Progressive agent in your town does not necessarily sell the same insurance as the company on the World wide web or on TV. This is true of several companies who advertise heavily on TV. The local agents in your town are usually independent agents who sell insurance from several different companies.

I like the convenience of being able to pick up a phone and speak to my local agent, but I always shop around before I purchase a new policy.

You make a website, and then you try to get people going to your website.

It’s very, very difficult.

It’s hard to drag in new customers, especially because 99% of the people that will go to your website, will be out of state, or out of country. It’s probably not going to be as effective, as for example, picking a neighborhood and walking door to door on a Saturday.

There are sites that sell you on the web insurance leads. These are people who went on the web to a network of websites and requested an insurance quote. Try netquote there one of the best. A easy google search for auto web leads or home web leads will find you several companies. Most have refund policies and have flexible amounts for totals leads per month.

State Farm gave you more personalized service, assessed your needs better. Say Farm is not a rinky dink company, they have the tools and processes in place to quote based on many different factors. I bet you came out in the ideal rating group (Mutual) which is something many world wide web companies do not offer — there is probably only one rating group, whereas Say Farm has different levels.

Each insurance company uses the same formula to create quotes for on the web customers and for customers who use local agents, except that Progressive advertises a discount (lower price) for buying online. If the on the web quite was from Say Farm, then the information that the agent entered in their personal was different than the information you entered on the website. if you are sure that you entered everything correctly, then the on the web Say Farm quote is correct and the quote from the agent is wrong.

They’re not. Auto insurance rates are highly regulated, so if you purchase the exact same coverage from the exact same company with the exact same rating factors, the price is exactly the same.

Many of those “rate comparison” places are trying to steer you to a different company (that’s paying them) so they will give you artifically high (fake) rates. And some of them are only trying to harvest your personal information to sell it, so they will also give you fake rates.

You cannot purchase Say Farm insurance online, you have to use an agent. So clearly, they are trying to push you to purchase from someone else with lower rates.

That might be good for someone who is just looking to get some spare money, but for someone like me who is saving up for a automobile and insurance for the car, that is just not going to cut it.

I am looking for a second job on the internet.

I’ve heard on the web sites can pay as much as 10 cents an hour.
If you work a full 8 hours a day for 5 days a week you can earn as much as $ 4
So… stay away from on the web to make money.
You are just giving your name and personal information to everyone.
They make money by selling your information.

CNN did a report on these work at home sites.
They were all scams. Each single one of them.

Check with smaller inland insurance company’s. The nationwide majors have been hit with numerous natural disasters and have to raise there rates to help cover there losses

Salvage automobiles are typically head aches. Unless you personally know the repair shop, it is ideal to steer clear of salvage vehicles. I do not mean that it is a shop on the corner that has been there for 10 years, more like the shop is owned by your father. I have a friend whose dad would find the wreck, do the restoration himself (not even her brother was granted to do any major repairs), and she drove really nice and properly repaired cars. I purchased a automobile that had it’s title “cleansed” and it was a nightmare. I fell in love with a pretty face and did not take proper protection, it had a clean CarFax,so you still need to be careful. The automobile was unsafe, I had to sell it to a friend’s salvage yard for parts. Cost me a few thousand dollars. Fortunately, I could afford the loss, most cannot. Buyer beware with salvage cars.
It should not have any effect on your auto insurance, unless you have to make a claim. Then you might have trouble with a major claim as the insurance company might deny repair coverage due to previous damage.

It will not affect your insurance. Buying a salvage automobile it all right as long as you are sure everything has been repaired. Also you might want to know that dealers themselves put up carfax reports and so automobiles can show a clean carfax and not be clean.

Some insurance companies will only let you put liability insurance on a car with a salvage title. A salvaged car can be what seems to be a “bargain” but will not be worth it in the long run. It will also be worth a lot less when you go to sell it. I would avoid a salvage titled vehicle.
