You have to be enrolled in their roadside benefit program in order to have their insurance. You can have the card without the insurance, but not the insurance without the card.

1st year was free. Roadside assistance does not come with the insurance. Sorry. I have had AAA insurance for 8 years and only had roadside assistance for the first 2 they still insure me though so I do not think you have to have roadside assistance for insurance unless the rules have changed.

Yes, but you have to pay extra.

I filled out an on-line form, got a quote, and went to their office to sign the paperwork. AFTER I payed for the road service, they THEN informed me that the price of the ins. would be higher than quoted.
HUH????supposedly, I made a mistake on the form. B.S. I told them to cram their insurance, but kept the roadside service for a year. (and did not use it, by the way)

For one, I do not have one yet, that is part of the problem. I currently have neither a automobile nor insurance. For my first car, I want to buy a automobile from one of the many people selling their used automobiles in my metropolitan area. But without insurance, I cannot drive the automobile home or even test drive it.

I would like to buy the minimum liability insurance that is required by California law BEFORE I select and buy a automobile so that way I can go to nearby cities test driving cars, and drive back the one I buy.

I have tried shopping on the web for insurance. I went to all the insurance companies that are on Television plus several others. I came across two issues 1) they base the insurance on what type of automobile you have, and I do not know which one I am going to get yet, 2) they want to sign me up for complete automobile and driver’s insurance, even though they claim to let me customize my plans.

I do not qualify for the say liability insurance for low income drivers.

Can you specifically name a place where I can walk in and buy only auto liability insurance?

I do not know of any company that will issue you a policy without knowing what kind of automobile you will be driving. How could they?

Some auto dealers will make you buy insurance (from the company of your choice) before you leave the lot, I guess it’s a potential liability for them. I ran into this and it was annoying.

Private sellers, on the other hand, do not generally care if you have insurance. Once they have the money and sign over the pink slip, it’s not their problem. I would not worry too much about driving a automobile home un-insured and arranging a policy once you get home. They will generally take effect the same day or at midnight the following morning, so the chances of you having an incident in that few hours is pretty slim!

If you are truly paranoid, call the insurance company of your choice from the seller’s location before you leave and buy a policy. It only takes about 10 minutes and they can arrange it to be effective immediately and fax/email you the insurance docs. This is what I did at the dealership. As a side-note, I have generally found that calling the company is faster than trying to do it online. Just a tip.

As for the amount of coverage, I am not sure I comprehend your complaint. I had no problem buying a “legal minimum” policy on the web from Geico. If you are having issues with the world wide web sites, pick a company, call them and say that you want a “legal minimum liability-only” policy. Yes, they might try to sell you more coverage because that is what they are in the business of doing. If you do not want it, do not buy it.

Without a automobile they cannot quote you a rate or sell you insurance. It’s based on the type of automobile and written against the specific automobile not the driver. Test driving the automobiles is fine as the owner should have it insured. Then when you find the one you want to buy take the information to an agent and buy insurance against it in your name.

To start with, if you do not have a car, you cannot get insurance on a car, since it goes with the vehicle, not with the driver. So if you are test driving, it’s with the owners permission and you are covered under his policy.

As to the second part, where to go when you do want to get insurance and are buying a car: You walk into the office of any local independent agent, and he will be able to assist you.

When you get to the section of the quote that asks about cars there is usually a drop down that asks about the type of car (pre 81, farm, etc). In that drop down there is a section named named owner or broad form. That is what you need to pick in order to get a quote for insurance when you do not own a vehicle

Most insurance companies will not do quotes for SR-22 insurance online. That is the only Nondriver or Nonowner policy I have heard of

BTW… Renters insurance generally excludes photography equipment and it is doubtful that you would then be covered if you are away from home and something happens. I had checked this issue extensively when my own equipment reached the $ 20,000 mark in value.

To answer your question: NO

Fuel Suppliers carry insurance for their delivery vehicles. That is it. They are LIABLE not libel for accidents due to their own negligence in auto accidents they are specifically involved in..

They make a lot of money on that crap insurance.

Check your automobile insurance policy; many of them carry over to rental cars.

Check your credit card. Many of them cover automobile rented with them.
