I’m sixteen and about to get my first automobile in a couple months. I was wondering if i could get an estimation on the cost of auto insurance for a 2009 mercedes sl63 amg. If there are any other details that need be stated then do not feel shy to ask. I really appreciate honest answers.

Mbr firstly i’d like to say, with no disrespect, that your mind set is truly discouraging in the fact that you assume that it’s a “wish” car. Why do not you think that I am a HARDworking student whose parents have the means to afford luxury? I am on my way to a scholarship to Johns Hopkins for both college and medical school as I aspire to become a cardiothoracic surgeon without naming too many of my accomplishments. Secondly, thank you for the honest response. Taking that into consideration, I will simply obtain a dealer plate under my father for a mere 6 grand a year (covers up to 30k costs).

P.S.: The automobile will not be brand new as it will be from the Adesa Auto Auction and therefore will cost a mere fifty-sixty grand with ~30k miles, which is absolutely affordable.

I’m an agent, I have been an agent for 25 years. Just so you know I am not making it up.

I realize this is a wish car, and everyone knows it’s not going to happen.

The main factor besides your age that comes into play, is which coverages you want, and how much of those coverages. So, assuming you are in Houston, Texas, and only want bare bones minimum, what you need to hang the plates (no coverage on the automobile itself), that is going to cost you around $ 3,000 a year.

If you want decent liability coverages, AND collision and theft, THAT is probably going to run you darned close to $ 25,000 a year, IF you can find an insurance company willing to insure that automobile with a 16 year old driver. Most flat out will not give you a policy. Max is not blowing smoke out his b*tt. Insurance companies have “prohibited vehicle” and “restricted vehicle” lists, and really costly fancy sports automobiles like that one are flat out prohibited, no matter how old you are.

If you were 50, with a perfect driving record, and you want to insure a automobile that costs more than $ 60,000 new, you will have a hard time finding coverage. More than $ 80,000, it’s going to be impossible at under five figures. If there is a kid in the household, under 25, or ANY moving violations at all, that automobile will not be insurable on the standard market. If you are 16, and want to insure a automobile valued at more than $ 40,000, it’s probably not going to happen.

Dude. When you have that first accident and your father’s dealership figures out he is letting his 16 year old kid drive a $ 100,000 automobile on dealer plates, he is going to have some MAJOR business problems. I do not care if he owns it, or owns a chain – if he does that, he will lose his insurance, and will have a damn hard time finding any more. And if he cannot carry insurance, he will lose his dealership. I really do not think YOUR automobile is worth that much, to him.

It doesn’t matter how much you PAY for the car. And those dealer plates only cover LIABILITY, not physical damage – which you can purchase cheaper yourself.

Yeah, I have insured dealerships, too.

And . . . sorry, I do not believe your story. Hardworking children who want to go to medical school, and are ALREADY on college scholarship, aren’t that financially dumb, to blow $ 56,000 on a depreciating asset. And if you have got that money, you are not going to GET a scholarship based on need.

The reason that insurance is through the roof is because most people down here drive like total retards! Excluding yours truly, of course. Get the insurance. It’ll probably pay for itself in a year. Try Geico. It really did save me money….

Yes! Its illegal to drive without it. You will get a ticket if you are pulled over.
If you own a car(not financed) insurance is relatively affordable because you only need PIP. If you do finance, it is high-priced because you need full coverage.
You can get superior prices by paying the insurance in sixth month increments, as oppose to paying it monthly. The insurance companies always give a superior price when you pay it in full.
Also, call around to all the major insurance companies and get a quote. Each company will give you a different price. You have to shop around to get a good price.

If he lives in Canada, Oregon or California, he can go with Wawanesa Insurance Company. His 6 month premium with progressive will pay for a whole year with Wawanesa. The do not write in any other says than what I have listed.

I have been very happy with esurance.com
I got a quote very quickly, then I called to talk directly with someone and fininshed the buy (you can do it all online, but the first time, I just wanted to talk with someone). Now I can see everything online. We had someone break into our car, I filed a claim over the phone and they were very helpful.
You can actually print out your proof of insurance within minutes of getting your policy online. And reprint them if you lose them later.

My insurance is through state farm. My automobile insurance costs me $ 69 dollars a month and my automobile is a 93 Dodge Shadow. Say Farm works with students and if you have a good driving record and stuff you can get a discount called “Steer Clear” and if you have good grades ( B average) you can get a discount called the “Good Student”. You might even qualify for more discounts so you can save more money that way. Depends on the automobile and the type of insurance you put on it.

There is no way you can find cheap automobile insurance if you are not wiling to search around for a good price.
The cheapest cost might be around $ 120 as there was another kid asking this same questions two posts down and that is what he was paying.
But who’s to state that you drive different cars, live in different places and are buying different insurance cover from different insurers.

I am a resident of Miami Florida and I can tell you first hand to be very careful entering any private information online. I have recently had my Identity stolen from entering my personal information which had to include my social security number for a free on the web auto insurance quote. Never again will I so easily be swayed to enter my personal information into the world wide web for all to see. My thoughts, there are people who can hack into anywhere online, do yourself a favor and try to limit the information you submit onto the web.
