Q&A: IS IT TRUE THAT IF YOU HAVE FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE ON A RENTAL CAR… (PLEASE LOOK INSIDE)?
Nov 17th
Question by Candy:
Is it true that if you have full coverage insurance on a rental car… (please look inside)?
They cannot ban you from renting from there for the rest of your life?
OK. Back in 2005, I rented a automobile from Enterprise with FULL coverage insurance.
1 day I was on my way to school because I had a deadline to turn in a research paper that was 30% of our grade, & my sister 2x my age locked me in the home on purpose & thought it was funny. I got in the car, & drove it to school, & I panicked & got into a wreck & the automobile crashed into a little tree on the median. It was only a fender bender. But the company tried to state it was totaled for over $ 2,000 worth of damage. Everyone else who saw, stated it was a fender bender. The twigs got inside the light on the left side of the front of the car. But that could’ve easily been fixed. Not sure. But the wheel alignment was messed up. Does that mean the automobile is totaled? What does TOTAL a automobile mean? That it could not be fixed?
Well, I was just speaking about it today, & a lot of people on the web had ganged up on me & attacked me. Now I am feeling sad & hurt. About to cry. & they were calling me dumb, irresponsible, etc. Very hostile & angry @ me. They act like I wrecked THEIR “personal” car! People get into accidents all the time. Anxiety disorder or not.
& they were saying that since I had full coverage, I shouldn’t have been banned. & they were saying my story did not make sense. But people look for any & each reason to discriminate against me. It’s not fair.

HOW DO I SHOW PROOF OF RENTAL CAR INSURANCE IN VIRGINIA?
Oct 17th
Question by Michael S:
How do I show proof of rental automobile insurance in Virginia?
I was pulled over for speeding last week. I was driving my rental car, but did not have the contract with me. The officer informed me that I needed the contract with me and gave me a ticket for the rental automobile not having insurance.
I did have insurance, I just did not have the proof of it with me. I believe that I should be able to show proof of insurance to get out of this citation, but who do I show it to? How long do I have to show it?
Should I contact a Virginia traffic attorney?

Q&A: CAN SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE CAR RENTAL LAWS IN ONTARIO AND THE REST OF CANADA?
Aug 29th
Question by canadianrobert:
Can someone help me comprehend the vehicle rental laws in Ontario and the rest of Canada?
I have the optional coverage added to my Bank of Montreal MasterCard for vehicle rentals. Full details can be found here.
http://www3.bmo.com/mosaik_images/silver_travelprotection_en.pdf
It states I must decline the Collision Damage Waiver or Loss Damage Waiver from the Automobile Rental company. When I ask the vehicle rental agencies for a breakdown of their insurance I never get a straight answer.
In summary the benefits are:
Coverage Benefits
Subject to the terms and conditions, You are covered for:
1. damage to the Rental Car; and
2. theft of the Rental Automobile or any of its respective parts or accessories; and
3. rental bureau charges for valid loss-of-use while the Rental Automobile is being repaired; and
4. reasonable and customary charges for towing the Rental Automobile to the nearest available facility.
This coverage does not provide any form of third celebration automobile, property damage or personal injury liability insurance.
What exactly does the last line mean? “coverage does not provide any form of third celebration automobile, property damage or personal
injury liability insurance.”
One person at a vehicle rental company stated that the rental company covers everyone for third celebration damage and liability under their own insurance and the extra insurace is not neccessary as BOM would cover the rental car. When I researched it online, it seems many people think their own vehicle insurance covers them. Is this true? I do not own a vehicle and do not have regular auto coverage. I plan on a renting a lot of automobiles in the next 6 months and the savings could be significant if I go without the rental bureau coverage. But I am uncertain if I would be responsible for third celebration damage/liability if I decline the coverage.
Can someone help clarify this for me?

HOW TO GET CAR RENTAL INSURANCE IN CANADA?
Aug 25th
Question by amandaaaaah.:
How to get automobile rental insurance in Canada?
I am from BC. I will be travelling to Edmonton, Alberta soon and along with my cousin, we are planning on renting a automobile from Edmonton to travel to Calgary.
I have looked at prices on the web and even called few rental places (numerous times, I have been given different quotes over the phone – which is ridiculous). Anyways, what I am not able to comprehend is how we go about getting insurance. We are both under the age of 25, over 21. I comprehend that we will have to pay an underage driver fee. We both do not own automobiles so we do not have auto insurance of our own. Neither do we both have credit cards – I read on the web that some credit card companies can cover you for automobile rental insurance if you make a full payment using that card.
(Both of us have BC licenses, in case that matters.)
So my question is: how do we get insured when we rent the car?
PS – Can someone else pay for it using their credit card and we still drive? (a parent or a bf)
