believe it or not……they base it based on your credit agency report. if it sucks, you get higher rates. not sure when and who thought of that, but i think that is just terrible. i know there are some says that want to stop this practice. i sure wish i was in one of those states! seems like it should have nothing to do with the credit report.

I have automobile insurance right now that has been increasing due to changes in my credit report. I have never had an accident and have never been late on my payments. I actually pay my automobile insurance about two weeks in advance. Is there a law stating that I have to give my SSN to a automobile insurance company? Is there a automobile insurance company where I do not have to provide my SSN? (I live in Nevada).

If you are just trying to avoid having your credit checked, then it’s not worth the bother. The insurance company has other methods of checking on your record.

It’s unlikely you will find a company willing to give you insurance without reviewing your credit, they use it as part of their equation for calculating your premiums.

I have extremely good credit and would like to keep it that way. However each time a check is done on your credit report your score will drop… a negative effect indeed. Plus when you call around for auto insurance you have to call several to get a decent quote and you don’t want to give out your social security # 20 plus times in one day, not to mention the risk that runs in regards to identity theft.

A easy inquiry is not going to ding your credit. Since most, if not all insurance companies check your credit, most, if not all of them would ask for your SSN.

Having bad credit doesn’t make you a bad driver. If they are worried about you paying the bill, why do they make it HIGHER if you have bad credit? Is not that a tiny messed up?
