I had progressive once. They responded very swiftly to the accident I had (other driver at fault). Got my automobile fixed quickly, got me a rental right away! Only problem I had is that they authorized a used gas tank and aftermarket body parts for my Grand Cherokee. I switched to American Family only because I moved an hour away and was able to put two automobiles and my home on a policy that way cheaper for more coverage!

They are good co. I had them after my wife had several accidents and renewed my cars ins. w/o putting her on it to save on my premiums. Needless to state she later wrecked again and they argued a tiny at first but since they did not make me sign a waiver saying she would not drive it they had to make repairs. They dropped me right after that but we were with them for about 2 years. Am now with farm burea but progressive was a good company and would definitely use them again.

Well I have Progressive and I have not been cheated, they let you compere rates and theirs was the best.

It is not going to be on the web site – each policy is different..some folks opt for low deductibles and higher premiums and some vice versa. Look at your policy or call your agent.

You need to begin back on an insurance rated group one or two car, that makes a large difference after lapsing. A few co’s offer free no claims to people going back to driving.

Unfortunately, as a young driver your rates will be higher. I am guessing you are not on your parents policy so you probably do not have prior insurance either. I would advocate going to a few insurance agents in your area, ask friends and people you trust about agents they might recommend. Get quotes from the agents to compare, they should give you quotes from different companies they work with. Also, speak to the agents, ask them questions, that is what they are there for. They might even have discounts you could qualify for depending on where you live. Let them know if the price is too high. When you are going through their quotes, have them explain the parts you do not understand. If you do not comprehend what a comprehensive deductible is or why it is on the quote for your auto, they will be able to explain it to you and you could select to not have it. They might be adding things you do not need to your quote that is increasing the premium. It will take time for you to get these quotes but it will help if you have your information for them when you get there. Info they will probably need is the Car Identification Number (VIN), your Driver License Number, Social Security Number, Date of Birth, Address, and some other info like that.

Full Coverage will cost more than Liability only but you might be required to have full coverage because of a loan or something like that. There are a few add-ons that you might not need too. Just ask about them.

There is no way for you or your insurance company to know.

Your insurance company will either call her or if you got her license plate number, they will send her a letter asking for her insurance info.

Now, it is important to know if you have collision insurance or uninsured motorist coverage on your auto insurance. If you do then let your insurance company fix your car. Then they will go after the other celebration for reimbursement. And, your right she probly has insurance since she was driving a newer car.

You do not need to do any of the work. Your claim rep does all that for you. That is what you pay them for. So, keep in contact with the claim rep and ask them if they are called her or sent letters to her asking for her info. Also, ask them how many days they give the other celebration to respond.

If you have any problems, contact your agent for help.

Their having insurance now will not help you at all; if they had no insurance at the time of the accident, you are out of luck, and they will have issues with the DMV. (Have you filed a police report with your insurance verified? If the other driver doesn’t file a “matching” report, their license can and should be suspended.)

Your auto insurance should include uninsured/underinsured driver coverage, which will pay for your injuries and damage, with a deductible on the damage portion; ask your agent about it.

Okay, follow most of the advice car253 gave you. But ignore the advice that you, or your insurance company cannot find out. You can’t, it’s restricted to you under the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (Federal law, 18 U.S.C) but under exceptions, B:6: it clearly states:

(6) For use by any insurer or insurance support organization, or by a self-insured entity, or its agents, employees, or contractors, in connection with claims investigation activities, anti-fraud activities, rating or underwriting.

So yes indeed, your agent can get that information and assist you in collecting.

Just let your insurance company know, they remove you as a driver and then add you on when you are home. You get a lower rate for this instead of paying for the entire year. I believe all insurance companies do this now. I know Cooperators does.

I concur with the other person regarding some insurance companies can stop and begin your insurance on demand.

I think I did this back when I was in college (that was a long time ago!). Basically I had to call up the insurance company and tell them when I needed coverage and when I needed to stop it again.

Call your agent. Just bear in mind if you go home for Christmas, you will not have insurance when you are home unless you “turn it back on”.

Playing devil’s advocate, turning on and off an insurance policy might do wacky things with discounts on insurance that is based on being a “loyal customer” for “X” number of years. My auto insurance is gets a 5% discount for being with the company for continuously for years. You will need to ask if the start/stop thing will impact that.

Check with smaller inland insurance company’s. The nationwide majors have been hit with numerous natural disasters and have to raise there rates to help cover there losses
