Question by AskRayOkay:
Court gave me a point for jaywalking now my auto insurance is high, can they do that?
I got a ticket from the police 2 years ago when I was 15 and a half. I am now 18 and I recently got my license, but when I applied for auto insurance it was 150 dollars more than usual because of the point court gave me for jaywalking 2 years ago. Did they make a mistake or can they really do that? It had nothing to do with driving! Now, I cannot drive because I cannot afford my insurance and they told me it’ll take 3 years until it’s absolutely off my record. I am screwed! Anybody have any recommendations on who I should complain to or if they can really do that! It’ll help a lot! thanks.

Question by Mike:
Can a automobile dealer fraud me if they have my bank app with info and other personal info?
Long story short,

I went to a small local automobile dealership with my parents yesterday to compare one more automobile before I decided which to choose. I had such a bad feeling about this guy since he kept pushing his own financing instead of our credit union and wouldn’t be specific on warranty terms, he kept telling my parents we get a lemon law warranty even though I was asking him about a 60 day dealers warranty, but he convinced my parents to do whatever he wanted and also convinced them that I am just a child (22) and I don’t know what I’m speaking about. I walk out on the deal but he has all our info still.

The dealer now has photocopies of our:

SSN numbers
Bank application with our signatures
Licenses
Mom’s paystubs
2 current bills
Copy of Current automobile insurance info
Copy of Current registration info
Copy of our current automobile title.

What can he do with all of this info? I have been reading about retail installment sales contracts and I’m a tiny nervous that he could do something fraudulent.

——————————————

Answer by N
Relax. He was trying to sell you a car, not steal your identity.

——————————————

Answer by fuzzylogic_y2k
Once you sign you are locked in for the term of the insurance. They cant up it. But when it comes time to renew then they can up it.

Answer by Karle
yes they CAN raise the rates as soon as ur contract expires…….

as for whether or not they have to honor the rate quote depends on IF its IN WRITING and u gave them all the info…..if u left out or omitted any info then they can change the rate….

Answer by Killista Mood
it is just a quote as a lot of attributing factors can change over time- your credit, dmv abstract, such as an accident while operating someone elses automobile with no citation given(last ex. is personal exp.)

Question by Leah D:
If a quote from insurance came in at 67% of the total value will they fix our car?
08sport ford ranger, approximate value 14-16k, damages are 10k. Will they fix it or scrap it?

——————————————

Answer by Who Who
More than like scrap it.

Answer by geegee
It’s very possible they might fix it. I was amazed last July, when Geico paid to fix my 2000 Echo, and they spent over 2000.00 on it, but apparently they felt it was worth the expense. But only you can determine whether you would feel safe driving a automobile that was so heavily damaged- my damage was only to the rear bumper after being rear ended at low speed in the rain.

Answer by mbrcatz
This is one of those borderline judgement calls from the adjuster. Some states, the law states 70%.

I think you are going to have to wait and see.

Oh, and it matters a way lot, if you are using RETAIL value, or private celebration sale value. You do not get “retail value”. IN my neck of the woods, the private celebration sale value of your vehicle, is about $ 11,000 . . . which DEFINATELY would be totalled, with $ 10,000 in damages.

——————————————

Question by redairforce:
Can they prove at what time I bought automobile insurance in Plano, TX?
I got a ticket for no insurance. I swiftly went home and bought some online. The document simply states the date. If I show this to the court, can they call Progressive and find out what time I bought the insurance?
Ok, so, go use your brain and figure out for me if the insurer will give them actual time of purchase.
Well, I am willing to take the chance seeing how this is Texas and they have this tiny DPS DRP Surcharge thing in effect here. This is going to be a $ 1000 ticket, 6 month suspension, and another $ 350 per year for the next 3 years.

Seeing how I am a student and living off the federal government at the moment, I’d rather take my chances with the court than “suck it up” and deal with it. It is unfortunate that the DRP wont be repealed until next year, but for now, I’d rather just not pay and take my chances.
Bam! Court took it under the assumption that insurance offices close at 5 pm and the ticket was at 6:30. Thanks to the believers.

——————————————

Answer by Insidius
Let me actually use my brain and think for a minute…. Uh. Yep!

Answer by Debbie Queen of All ♥
They totally can find out the exact time. Insurance is one of those things where they time stamp everything. They do not want to cover you if you had a wreck at 10:00 and got insurance at 11:00. They are very careful about times. The insurance company is not going to lie to the police for you. They WILL give them the correct time. You know you did wrong. Just pay the ticket.

<~~~ Husband is Texas police officer

Wow. If that is the fine, I guess you learned your lesson about driving with insurance is a lot cheaper than driving without. My husband gives out no insurance tickets each day. I did not know what the fine was though. We all seriously wish you well. Hope it turns out ok for you.

Edit: My husband states that the court will most definitely call and validate your insurance at the time of the ticket. He states when you present the paper saying you had insurance at the time of the ticket, you ARE lying to the court and that is most likely going to aggravate the judge. He states that you are very likely go to jail right then...on top of everything else.

Edit Again: Bam! I hope perjury feels good. Karma my friend.

Answer by Entidtil
Yes they can find out. Will they? The only way you will know is after you appear in court

——————————————

Answer by Sheley
yeah actually, you should be able to go to any three automobile dealerships and get quotes. i would get one quote by the person who is supposed to come out and look at it. and then get other quotes by top dealerships in the area.

Answer by Jason F
You can ask them for copies. If they will not provide them then you just do not pay it.

Answer by state it again
you can ask them, for anything you want, the problem is, they are going to do what they want, Im not sure why you are asking this, are you paying this out of pocket? if so, I know some insurance companies might send you a letter asking you to pay this amount, they might send more than one letter, the next thing you get maybe the court case number they filed if they do not get paid in a specified period of time (which means they fixed the persons automobile that was damaged promplty, and intead of messing around, just made a letter of demand, (as required by law) and after 30 days filed suit. thay may, or might not be difficult to work with, ask for the estimates and see. good luck

Question by minix0987:
I rear ended a automobile and they left the scene, what do I do?
So after the fact I realize I should have called the cops, but I ran into another car, road was wet and my brakes locked, but I know it’s still my fault. The twist is that the other automobile flew off after i hit him. (I’m guessing he was driving without a license or something along those lines). I filed a claim with my insurance online, anyone know what the chances of them covering the damage is? I have full coverage in New Jersey.

——————————————

Answer by Ricart Auto
You should still self-report the accident, giving as much information as you can to the police about the other automobile (make/model of the car, what you can recall from the plate #, driver description, etc). This is not something that you’d be faulted for, as far as a ticket for leaving the scene or something (you shouldn’t be anyway, and could go to court and fight it, if they issue you one), but if you rear-ended the vehicle, you are at fault for the accident itself. You should be covered for this accident, but you will have to check with your insurance company and refer to your policy for coverage limits. This does happen from time to time, so rest and just work through it with your agent. Good luck!

Ricart Auto

Answer by dn24210r
Well you were at fault but by leaving the scene they have become at fault. Because they might have not been insured and there fore should not have been on the road and if they were not on the road you would not have hit them. Legal junk but it works in your case.

So by leaving the scene they have admitted guilt yes you should have called the cops but the insurance company should still cover the damages(if you were covered for those type of damages ie collision). But, you have left them some play to mess with you with bs.
If they do threaten with a attorney and if that doesn’t work call one.

Goodluck

Answer by Kizzy
Your collision coverage should handle the damage for you yet you will have to pay your deductible.

——————————————

Question by AllorNothing AKA The Black MikeT:
Why should men care if women get paid LESS, if they do not give a DAMN about unreasonable automobile insurance for men?
The whole argument with women when asked about how they feel about male automobile insurance:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“men are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics state most men cannot drive as safely as women”

So why should I care if women are getting paid less for the SAME job a man is doing since:

Women are usually less productive than men
Women want to be flirtatious in the workplace
Women are always suing for sexual harassment
Women have to call off to have children or take care of kids.

And I could just use all of the above:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“women are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics state most women cannot work as efficiently as men”

Since the insurance companies “feel” men are irresponsible based on statistics.
Then men who have seen women consistently under perform ,compared to men, should just pay women less for the SAME amount of work.

BTW the “women pay more for health insurance” argument is old and tired. The Male vs. Female health insurance gap is no where near as huge as the male vs. female automobile insurance gap.
@ I Enjoy: I am glad you do not care about my “whining”

Because I do not care about you are problems associated with you being a woman: pms, sexual harassment cat calls. I am a man so It’s not my problem right?
Tristan: Ok sounds reasonable.

——————————————

Answer by Pat
Good point. I am still an suggest of womens’ rights though since not all women feel that way.

Answer by Guido
That is why some people are equalists while others are feminists.

Answer by I Enjoy Hats At Rakish Angles!
I DO care about any inequality that is based on false generalizations. But if you are coming across as a whiny misogynist then most women will make a point not to admit they concur with you…

Also…
“Women are usually less productive than men” Like any guy, not if they are at a job they care about.
“Women want to be flirtatious in the workplace” Not true, especially if they want to get respect and get promoted.
“Women are always suing for sexual harassment” Not ‘always’, only if they feel they are being harassed, and that in some way should be addressed, but preferably not with a law suit.
“Women have to call off to have children or take care of kids.” In order to continue the human race, people are going to reproduce. Not happy with women quitting their jobs to take care of kids? Then be a stay-at-home-dad.

——————————————

Question by questionquestion:
If I lie about my grades to get a good student discount with my auto insurance, does it matter. Do they check?
If I submit an modified grade transcript to the auto insurance company looking to get a good student dicount, do I have to worry about them calling the school to check. Is this a realistic concern. If they do, what are the real consquences?

——————————————

Answer by Raul G
donr worry, they dont check, well, they didnt on me, they just took my grades as i brought them

Answer by vamedic4
They require proof, in the form of an official copy of your grades. No copy, no discount.

Answer by M3
Consider this. Is the discount really worth getting cancelled if they do find out?

——————————————
