As long as you are totally sure that Geico covers anything that might happen to your automobile while being transported by a third party. Otherwise do not scrimp and get the extra insurance.

You can’t drive (legally) without being insured. You will get a ticket if caught. And a heck of a lot of trouble if something happens.

If you do drive without insurance, you should be verrryyy careful.

You can’t drive your parents’ car, unless you have a driver license.
Even if they give you permission, though, if you do drive it. And you crash it, your parents’ will get the ticket, not you.
I would not try it, however.

Depending on how old you are, if you have a drivers license and your parents’ permission, in some says you can legally drive their automobile and be covered by their insurance, because the insurance covers the vehicle.

I know it is true in my say up to age 25 but I do not know for sure about Virginia.

If you have a valid drivers license and you are ticketed, you will receive the ticket, not your parents. But your parents’ insurance will cover damages to the automobile and to other property not belonging to you.

Don’t bother asking your agent because it is in their ideal interest if you are insured individually from your parents.

Only if you are covered by your parents insurance. Many people here will tell you that the insurance covers the car. This is not true with all companies. Check with your parents agent.

A reputable dealer–and I assume there are plenty who are, and plenty who aren’t–will not let you drive away without proof of registration and insurance.

We accompanied a friend who purchased a automobile from a dinky, hard-to-find dealer that seemed semi-shady to us, and they demanded proof of insurance.

Did you purchase it from a dealer/ used automobile lot, etc… They usually have coverage on all of their cars for test drives, etc… You’d have a day or 2 after you purchased the automobile to get insurance on it.

You can be in serious trouble if there was any injuries. You are already in trouble for driving without insurance. In my say NY that is an automatic 1 year suspension and you would have to pay a civil penalty of up to $ 1000 and $ 750 after the suspension is over for driver responsibility assessment. If you are not at fault and the police report states it you can go file a claim with the at fault celebration insurance for your damages. If you are at fault you are out of luck and their insurance will go after you for damages and injuries which will be subrogated to you i.e. lawsuit. The light at the end of the tunnel is your not criminally liable for the accident and wont go to jail . Also I can assume you have no assets since you couldnt pay the insurance and had hardships. In that case your basically judgment proof and they wont be able to get paid for the accident. They will go through their own uninsured motorist coverage. Get legal advice and do not give a statement until you have spoken to an attorney. Good luck

If it is going to be in your name, then you need to sign all of the pertinent documents. You can have them fill out the documents and give them to you to sign, then they can bring them in without you.
