So I am a 16 year old driver. my family has three cars. a lexus GX470, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a saturn sky. I am insured on the Toyota and not the saturn because the difference insurance increases. ($ 75 compared to around $ 250) Can I drive the saturn and the lexus without being insured on those cars? And if so what are the limitations.

Answer by High Voltage
Call the insurance company and find out your ideal answer…

Answer by Kcor1992
well you can just dont get pulled over by a cop or crash

Answer by Newberrytiger
You can’t drive (legally) without being insured. You will get a ticket if caught. And a heck of a lot of trouble if something happens.

If you do drive without insurance, you should be verrryyy careful.

Question by Reckless Kid:
Are you granted to drive your parents’ automobile with their permission without auto insurance?
I just wanted to know if I can drive my parents’ automobile legally without auto insurance. I live in Virginia, if that is helpful.
I have a license. Just no auto insurance… yet.

——————————————

Answer by Nhan V
You can’t drive your parents’ car, unless you have a driver license.
Even if they give you permission, though, if you do drive it. And you crash it, your parents’ will get the ticket, not you.
I would not try it, however.

Answer by spongeworthy_us
Depending on how old you are, if you have a drivers license and your parents’ permission, in some says you can legally drive their automobile and be covered by their insurance, because the insurance covers the vehicle.

I know it is true in my say up to age 25 but I do not know for sure about Virginia.

If you have a valid drivers license and you are ticketed, you will receive the ticket, not your parents. But your parents’ insurance will cover damages to the automobile and to other property not belonging to you.

Don’t bother asking your agent because it is in their ideal interest if you are insured individually from your parents.

Answer by sensible_man
Only if you are covered by your parents insurance. Many people here will tell you that the insurance covers the car. This is not true with all companies. Check with your parents agent.

——————————————

Answer by star
DUH yes

Answer by Maryn Bittner
A reputable dealer–and I assume there are plenty who are, and plenty who aren’t–will not let you drive away without proof of registration and insurance.

We accompanied a friend who purchased a automobile from a dinky, hard-to-find dealer that seemed semi-shady to us, and they demanded proof of insurance.

Answer by scorpiochick17
Did you purchase it from a dealer/ used automobile lot, etc… They usually have coverage on all of their cars for test drives, etc… You’d have a day or 2 after you purchased the automobile to get insurance on it.

I let my auto insurance lapse 1 month, because I did not have the money for my premium. I just want to know if there is light at the end of this tunnel. I know it was very irresponsible of me, but I am the only income for my wife and 3 children under 6yrs old. I am just looking for some hope.

Answer by Jay
You can be in serious trouble if there was any injuries. You are already in trouble for driving without insurance. In my say NY that is an automatic 1 year suspension and you would have to pay a civil penalty of up to $ 1000 and $ 750 after the suspension is over for driver responsibility assessment. If you are not at fault and the police report states it you can go file a claim with the at fault celebration insurance for your damages. If you are at fault you are out of luck and their insurance will go after you for damages and injuries which will be subrogated to you i.e. lawsuit. The light at the end of the tunnel is your not criminally liable for the accident and wont go to jail . Also I can assume you have no assets since you couldnt pay the insurance and had hardships. In that case your basically judgment proof and they wont be able to get paid for the accident. They will go through their own uninsured motorist coverage. Get legal advice and do not give a statement until you have spoken to an attorney. Good luck

Answer by Adam L
Sorry the law doesnt normally have rights for criminals. I would lawyer up quick

Answer by LeAnne
Seek legal advice – they will know what rights you might have and they will certainly have significantly more experience than you have in dealing with this type of situation.
Good luck.

I recently bought a automobile and would like to get it on the road. However, I have a 6.5 hour class daily that I cannot really afford to miss. (Even for a few hours.) Would my parents be able to go and get automobile insurance (I will be on their insurance) and register my automobile at the DMV without me being there in person? I am living in NY if this makes a difference.

Thank you!
If you mean my driver’s license, Brian, than I already have that.

Answer by Brian L
well they can but you need to be there for your license since they take you a photo there

Answer by you are all in my heart forever
i know in wisconsin you need to be there at the dmv, to sign papers. the insurance they can do

Answer by sux_2b_ewe
If it is going to be in your name, then you need to sign all of the pertinent documents. You can have them fill out the documents and give them to you to sign, then they can bring them in without you.

Question by DJC:
Why is it illegal to drive without automobile insurance?
I have heard rumors that it is illegal to drive without automobile insurance; first of all, is this true? Secondly, if this is so, why? Many individual American motorists experience between 0-2 minor accidents in their lifetime, some of which are very minor (where both automobiles still run fine and there is just a bump or so). Any information would be useful.

Answer by rockafella2393
no

Answer by Wisenheimer
Politics. This was a great win for the insurance companies.

Answer by Flower Girl
Yes it’s true and do you want to be the guy that gets hit, with your automobile totaled and thousands in dr. bille, by the guy that did not have any insurance? Who do you think is going to pay for all the damage?
